Those picnic tables made with a bent pipe frame to support the seats and top - those pipes make great runners and when you back a pickup to the side of one of those and hook a tow rope end to each pipe and throw the middle over the hitch ball - they make a fun ride. Don't ask me how I know - it was a high school graduation party.

What ride in the back of a pickup truck, actually I would still ride in the back but that means I would have to let my wife drive

I rode in the back of a pick up just a week ago. On the highway too.

The kids aren't just fine and as s219 mentioned, will slide under the car if she stops or slows and that's a law of nature. I'm a natural risk taker based on calculated odds and those are not good odds.

Now, I've had kids jump off hay mows onto my arms (bad idea), I've let them drive--around farm-- way too young and once built a "Dukes of Hazzard" jump but my wife cancelled the planned event. So those are good risks. Pulling kids with a rope or chain is a bad idea.

How about just being a jerk for going around and around the circle at 5mph and holding up traffic?

Can't imagine that not being a "wrong hauling".

expensive looking accident. I wonder if the pintel hitch ont he tag trailer came off?

My guess - just a guess - was that the trailer began to fishtail and tossed the excavator off as it overturned. Then the hitch couldn't rotate so it failed.

That's probably what happened. If you look at the pic again, the wheels on the trailer are nearly centered lengthways, yet the backhoe is weighted rearward. It probably should have gone on backward for that reason. If it was put on forward, it would be easy to have weight too far back and the fishtail to begin. Either way, that's likely the driver with the hardhat on walking around to assess things and he doesn't look very happy.
