There was a day when they would have just helped him. Now its all about how much money they can rake in.

A weight distribution hitch would be a good idea with that rig.
I use a 14,000# rated Equal-i-zer (brand) weight distribution hitch, when towing over 10,000#

I realize the benefits of the WDH systems, but I generally keep my loads much smaller and well balanced and haven't had a huge need. I've never towed as much as I did today and likely won't again, it was a rare need.

fried1765: I gave it more thought; with the "rare need" having occurred so soon in my ownership of this new trailer, I went ahead and picked up a 14k WDH setup in case the "rare need" happens again. Took time to get it all setup and installed today. Of course that means putting the tractor on the trailer for a load-accurate setup. My typical method of fitting load bearing fasteners also requires me to take a drive. I tighten everything up good, go about a mile down the road real easy, then pull off and torque everything to spec. Go down the road to a local restaurant where there is a good level/flat lot and recheck the measurements, torque the fasteners again, and go inside for lunch. On the way home, I drive like I typically do when towing and really like the difference it makes. I never felt unsafe without it, but I do feel safer with it. I can't say your recommendation was the nudge that pushed me into getting a WDH, I may have gotten one eventually anyhow; but either way, I wanted to say thanks.

No picture because I happened upon it so fast but a small truck pulling a nice 4x8 harbor freight trailer with approx 18" to 2' sideboards all around. It was sitting on the edge of the road still hooked and had a level with dirt load. The middle of the axle was dragging in the gravel and was not going to move. I did not want to stop and take a picture for obvious reasons.

I not only remember those days but I was part of those days.

These are sad days by comparison.

... pulling a nice 4x8 harbor freight trailer
No such thing. :) I have two of their 40"x48", one I bought new and the junker with the water tank on it I described above. I don't think the materials or design are anywhere near suitable for the rated capacity. A cousin has the folding 4x8 and it doesn't look any stronger.

I think the HF trailers are suitable for a canoe or something light, not suitable for general hauling anywhere near their rated capacity. My 2k 4x8 from Home Depot, same as those at Tractor Supply, didn't cost much more and is worlds better.

I always thought of them as yard/garden trailers that could make the occasion trip for more potting soil..
