Buying Advice Cabela's selling Compact Tractors

I still think it's strange they wouldn't sell me the grapple off their lot - only to make me pay shipping from Woods instead. Cost them the sale.

That is strange - why would any store not sell you something they had in stock? Could it have already been sold to another customer and was awaiting delivery maybe? What did they say?

/ Cabela's selling Compact Tractors #303
Because they probably only had one, and they wanted to keep it for a "demo" to show.

They don't sell implements off the floor - you have to buy them online or through a guy who looks up what they cost online to quote you prices and then takes wild guesses as to what the additional shipping charge will be (even though it's quoted on the website if you're not too lazy to plug in the zip code) - they call him an outfitter I guess? He had a desk. I'm not sure exactly why though.

Walmart keeps their costs low by operating the largest freight operation in the country and then passing on that savings to the customer. I'm going to take a guess and say Cabela's can get a better deal hauling a 700# pallet to their store than I can, but they're not offering that option either. Instead, they're charging me $370 for curbside delivery.

Woods makes a nice grapple. It's not worth $2700 though (current sale price with delivery). Meanwhile, it's only $130 to have something of similar size and equal or greater weight shipped from Everything Attachments. How is a small shop able to destroy Cabela's on their shipping? Maybe because they offer shipping to the terminal where I'm not stuck paying for a lift gate and residential service.

I would've paid the price for the grapple had I been able to drive away with it. The impression I got from the experience was that they just weren't all too interested in selling them.

Don't think that's all Cabelas. The one in Ft Worth has tons of implements outside with duplicates. So I can't imagine they wouldn't let me drive off with one.

I bet it'd be different if I was buying a tractor, but the kid didn't seem at all interested in hooking me up. Probably for the best - I can make one now.

its because they charge you full list price for the attachments and eat the overcharge on the shipping.

Hound Dog Attachments Grapples QAG Series Grapples

Note double grease zerks at hinge points, sturdy cyl mounts, shaft guards, $50 JDQA option, color choices ... prices ...

Ask for Bob or Tony.

Nuthin' in it for me to comment thusly, just a very happy customer. (My QAG is CNH blue.) btw, high level of craftsmanship is also well exhibited on the digging tooth Tony went all out to match to T5C's non-typical rear bucket mounts. I'll tout that & the sweet job of adding the diverter setup to the NH's FEL for the grapple when my camera skills can do justice to the work done. (don't ya just love real paint vs flaky-peely powder coat?) tog

The plot thickens - I went back tonight to look it over again since the grapples are on sale now and it's gone...

Salesman said "we must've sold it." So I talked to the assistant manager about that and the power sports manager is going to call me Monday.

This doesn't sit well with me. I've spent thousands with that company. :irked:

Salesman claimed he never refused to sell me the grapple via voicemail, no call from manager as requested either.

So I went to the newer Woodbury store and found out the guy I'd been dealing with has a reputation of dinkish behavior. We got past that quick, and I was taken back into the shop to get a look at the grapples they had.

Greg confirmed they were held pretty tight to the store pricing on the Woods stuff, but he let me double up a couple promotions to arrive at $100 off the $2359 sale price, and they took my veterans discout off as well (another $117 off). And processed it all under my Ag exemption, so I don't have to wait until next year to see that $130 either. Now this is the Cabela's experience I'm used to!

I'm very pleased with the build quality on this thing so far. All the bracing is stout and well designed. Now I just need my Surplus Center order to come so I can button up my 3rd function install.

EA sets their own "full list price" based upon shipping the item which is going to be a realistic price for the overwhelming majority of customers. They very clearly note that you can pick up in person for a lower price. At least they don't play the ridiculous game of having a "list price" which is artificially high so that when dealers give people a "deal" or a "rebate" the customer feels like they got some sort of special treatment...when all they got was the same price as every other joker who walks through the door. The manufacturer made their profit off the item, and now a middle man gets to make a profit, so the only one losing out is the customer who has to cover two profit margins, rather than one.

It's kind of telling when an implement dealer rips on EA who sells direct, rather than through dealers who profit being the middle man.

Different store. If I boycotted every company who employed a 20-something dink, I'd be wearing a loin cloth and eating snails.

$2135 out the door and it's rated to 100hp and 10,000# of machine. I was real close to getting an EA extreme compact for similar money, but I like the design of the Woods better.

This thing is a tank!

The question is how much would it be buying direct?

The only other advertised price I found was $3100 suggested retail. Woods doesn't sell direct, it's a dealer only distribution model.
