2555HST, 150 hours. In the field now, don't have service manual. Was working on a stump with bucket. Reverse stopped working. Looked under tractor, saw small puddle of oily substance. Not a lot, maybe 3-5ozs. Can't see where it camp from right now due to skid plate, but it's centered pretty much where dash is. I got back on the tractor, drove over to a safe, flat spot and turned her off to further investigate. After 5 mins, went to start her and check engine light blinking and won't do anything. Oil level is good, transmission/hydro oil is good, coolant is good.

Any ideas what to check next?

Also, if under warranty, and it won't start, is dealer liable to pick it up?

Thanks for any reaponses. I'm going to go get some tools and remove the skid plate so I can get under there and look into the leaked fluid and try to figure this out.

I think you will find your tractor is like your Honda Accord,,
if it dies,, you have to pay to get it to the dealer,,,

I took off that cover which appears to be protecting the drive shaft to the front 4wd axle. That little hole which is coming from (I think) the transmission seems to be the source of the leak. There are no threads. Is there suppose to be a cap or pressure blow something or other???

Also, after checking the fuses I found a number 5 (water in fuel) fuse blown. I replaced it, and it still won't start.

I then noticed this light on on dash. Anyone know what it means? I have no manual with me and Google is no help.

I also disconnected the positive battery cable for about 30 mins. Still nothing.

That light you have lit up is the water in fuel warning light [ a picture of a filter with a drop of water underneath it ] [ the one below that which is not lit is your service the air cleaner warning ]... Does your dash light up a R when you press on the reverse HST pedal....?? You could have pulled a wire off the pedal underneath the floor board. If you 2555 HST is like mine, you have a computer controller located under the drivers side dash that runs the transmission, with the pedals only telling the computer to move...

JerryK, When I turn the key to on, the F is constant lit when not pushing pedal. When I push reverse pedal, F goes off, but no R. I think you are on to something with wires under steering wheel. I've always had "a" wire hanging under there since day one, but now I see 3, but they don't connect to each other. I can't seem to see under there good enough to see where each, if any plug. I'll attach pics if u can distinguish which wire should be there and which should be plugged in.

On the fuel light, if I drain the tank and refuel, us there a sensor that will register and reset for new fuel?

So I guess I have more than one issue. Anyone have any idea about the hole leaking fluid in pic?

Here's a better pic after pulling cover from under steering wheel. I can seem to find where any of the 3 would plug in.

I believe those wires are for hooking up a tester to the transmission computer [ or transmission controller, whatever you want to call it... ]. I would look under the floorboard in the pedal area. You might have jammed a stick up under there, bent something, or pulled a wire off somewhere. The F pedal has a device that tells the controller to go forward, and it also lights up the F on the dash. So, there is no way you can go R until you get the F off... Either the pedal is not returning to it's home position, or back to the bent or wire off thing.... The wet oil thing underneath is probably something else....

Also the check light is blinking with key on. When forward peddle is pushed, the blinking check light goes off. Brake is set.

Sorry, when reverse peddle is pushed, check light goes off. No change with forward peddle.

Thanks Jerry. I'm looking into it.

If the water in fuel light is lit, you have to drain the water out of the canister hanging down behind the front axle on the drivers side. On the bottom of this device, you will see two wires going to the bottom... this is the water in fuel sensor. Unplug the sensor, then unscrew it some out of the device.... this will allow any water that is in the bottom of it to drain out. When you see clear fuel coming out, screw it back in and reattach the sensor wires. Since you blew the water in light fuse, you might have snagged these wires/torn them off and that's why the fuse blew. You may not really have water in fuel, you might have the wires shorted together making it think the sensor is sensing water.... [[ :) ]]

Also, if the check light is lit [ meaning either parking brake not set or either of the HST pedals pressed ], it won't start.... So, if you yank the stick out from underneath.... you should be good to go...

I'll follow through with directions on fuel and water thanks.

On the forward reverse issue, it starts if I push in the reverse pedal, but still only operates in forward.
