46 going to a much warmer 66 today in what must be a very sunny day coming.
All good, my big helper comes today and I'm going to work him to death.
First he has about 30 of those big Tposts to bang in; I lifted that fence pounder...better him than me for sure.
Then we put the big auger on the back of the Kubota and I start measuring out the nut orchard field.
Goofed in my design....hmmm. Only about 85 feet of width. No way I can put three trees wide and still allow 40 feet between. So redesigned to do two rows, particularly since the plot narrows down at one end. In the wide area, I'll plant a third row, and put the figs in there. Figs, almonds, mostly pecans, and English walnuts. Should bring every squirrel here from Eastern NC. 550 feet long.
Took me several hours of fiddling around to get the fence line straight between two points almost 600 feet apart. Reminded me of front and rear range lights on a ship channel. First I put a marker up in the middle, made sure that looked good, then put down preliminary red pins. Then moved most of them over two inches. Then another inch. Then it looked good. A transit would sure have been nice...probably could have rented one.
Each time I moved the pins I lost land...but i sure don't want to move that fence again. I was hoping my neighbor would come out with his rifle and scope but he was at work. I have to do the same positioning for the tree rows. I want them
straight.
I guess I'm going to wind up with almost another acre of lawn/orchard grass to mow. At least my neighbor said he would help mow this area, that's nice, it's his backyard and he seems to love riding his JD zero turn. Almost 9 acres of lawn now. I'm done...
