Lets see your Woodworking Skills

In my later years I've reverted to smaller projects but they can also be fun. The jig to cut the spool notches ( which need to be a perfect book match ) was nearly as much fun as making tape dispensers. Learned that notch thing on the first one and told self, self let's think about this for a minute. Made several dispensers over the years as gifts and they need to weigh at least 13 oz with no skid shoes.

SandburRanch , we had a grade 12 student that was with us in the shop for a few months last year . He surprisingly enough had a passion for making wood bodied hand planes and he was quite good at it .He would hunt down old blades online and then build a plane around it . Put a smile on my face to see a young guy jumping into the trade . Big or small the craftsmanship is there and I agree , making a good jig can be just as satisfying as the project itself. Love the wood in your dispenser ! (I hoard exotic looking wood :) )

Disclaimer, I most certainly did NOT make this. A retired Banker and his wife make these Saint Nicholas statues. They make a different one every year. I've been fortunate enough to get two of them for my wife. He carves them and his wife paints them. They say it takes about five hours to do one. This year they made 74. Their house is a showcase of their work over the past 25 years. Some of their statues are 3 feet tall.

They are very modest people and have quietly done this work and slowly added to the list each year. We are honored to get one when we can. He's 75, she's 73.

Sorry my pic is turned for some reason....

If my wife sees that St. Nick, I'll be looking for a way to get in line. Very nice!

My wife is not an emotional person. Before getting her this I had only saw her cry twice. Now that count is at three. :)

A lot of outstanding craftsmanship here far beyond my ability . During the winter the last few years I play in the workshop as a result I have a few hundred small projects stacked up. I've sold a few things mostly give to friends and family. All the wood I use comes from my property.

Thanks for the compliment but I bout had to laugh when I read " exotic ". That wood came from a Oak stump after I took the dead tree down that was inevitably going to fall on the well house. That milled wood stinks to high heaven until it finally dries and that took awhile. I'm always amused at folks saying to burn the stump.

That was in 2008 and at age 75 I probably won't be working a stump up again any time soon :)

Those are impressive and beautiful. Would love to hear their sound........I am sure it's high quality.
IMHO, they are on par with Collings, Bourgeois and other makers. Old, good Martin's are the only ones I've heard that I would say sound better - but you know how guitar players are....always looking for "the right tone".
