Looking for suggestions/advice/teaching on how to replace a relay which was included in this wiring kit purchased with my Tuff Lites.

Amazon.com: Tuff LED Universal Wiring Harness with Red LED Light Pilot Toggle Switch for Off Road LED Light Bars and LED Work Lamps , UTV, Truck, SUV, Side by Side, Polaris, Yamaha, Rzr Razor, Rigid, Ranger. HID Flood Lights, Golf Cart: Automotive

Apparently the relay has gotten wet or damaged in some way. One night after using the lights (following a lot of rain and humidity) we turned them off and they came back on within a few minutes but not full strength, just sort of glowing. So I flipped the switch on and they came on full strength. Flipped it off and they stayed off a few minutes then started glowing again. This time I simply pulled the wire which was connected to (+) of the battery. Now that daylight savings time has ended and the days are short I really need to get them working properly again. Figure it's the relay but not real sure. Oh, this happened about a month ago. Tried to reconnect the (+) this past weekend and there are NO lights now, neither lamp works (there are two fixtures on the relay.) I did leave it disconnected so it wouldn't draw down the battery unexpectedly.

So, I need to know if you think the relay has gone bad or if it might be something else.
Also, if it's the relay how/where to purchase a replacement. Not sure how I can order just a relay from Tuff Lights. I can get the old one off but I don't recall any markings on it. Will take a closer look next time I get outside.

Thanks,
Jeff

Just pull the old one and take it to a parts store. It's a common relay and will probably have "12v 40 amp" or something similar written on it.

Probably a common 5 pin Bosch type relay.

After looking at the Amazon link again for clues, it appears this is the actual relay you need. I had bought the same tuff brand harness to saving time wiring lights my self but it wouldn't work for my needs. I just went through my box of assorted electric parts and this is the relay mine uses. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FH7YP9I/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1450235156&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=runnan+12v+40a

Thank you DT86!!!

Thank you DT86!!!

No problem!

I should have mentioned, the orientation of the lugs printed on the relay in your link is what made me question my first post. They are not in a common arrangement, as far as I can tell. The only place I was able to find the same type was Amazon.

Replacement ordered. With any luck they will be here before Christmas break. Amazon states Tuesday but they have been about a week behind on my most recent orders. Looking forward to having some decent work lighting on the tractor again.

Richard did I notice a 4 post canopy on your tractor?

Yeah, I built it using a canopy lid off an old John Deere backhoe and square tubing. I thought I did a thread but can't find it so must not have. I can start a thread if you'll post yours too??

Sorry to the OP for the hijack... :)

Yeah, I always do too. And most threads tend to wander. Some people get really worked up about it... :D

I hear ya. Too many uptight people these days. Life's too short to get bothered by something so trivial.

Feel free to hijack mine, I currently have a thread related to just that, full cage ROPS for my JD 3005. Love to see any other pictures of ROPS or canopies.

Second one has failed. Not sure why. What things can lead to failure? Can I take it apart for clues to prevent a third failure? Have the new one in hand but want to avoid replacing a third time.
