I am not talking about just when you spray it, but also when you eat what grows after you have sprayed. Ed
ED,, Oh, if that were true we would all be dead by now. They all have been playing games in GOD's garden but unless you are under 20 years old I would question that. Farmers have been using herbicides since I was a small tick and today there is a much better knowledge of the things done wrong in the past and chemicals are better and more selective today, Still not perfect in any way but I am still alive and without the things we use today you could not afford to eat unless you grow your own. Back in the 50s the average life span was way shorter than it is today. So yeah, it is a double edge sword. All that stuff they sell at 100% more as organic,, bet you would not want to know what or how they do it. I bet none of us know what we eat unless we don't shop at all for food. Have a cup of coffee, brush your teeth, or have a Pepsi,,your sucking up chemicals, many way worse.

At least the chemicals today used on farms have a LD (Life/Death) factor you can see before you touch or use them. In the past it was a crap shoot. What you get after the fact,,,your right,,,who knows, but by far it is not your only contact to who knows what.

The purple flower one is worse. They have taken over the garden. I've tilled them every spring, they come back worse.
I have never sprayed the garden before. Since 2-4-d kills weeds and not grass i was looking to use it.

The purple flower is Henbit. The blue I believe is a Speedwell. I'm not familiar with the Speedwell. But looks like it's a perennial.

The Henbit is a winter annual. Very easy to kill. Needs to be sprayed pretty quickly as it's going to seed. Heavy seed population all over US. Major weed in a wheat field. Usually matured and a non event to summer crops.

2,4d should easily kill both.

But the grass will take over your garden.

Good evening all. 67F this morning overcast with periods of rain, and breezy. Made it to 74F rain all morning, threat of thunderstorms this afternoon did not make it this far north. Got ready for them, but was spared. Did practice my napping skills, and put the office chairs together, but March billing still needs work.

Thanks farmer.
Grass in the garden is not a problem. Matter of fact i made the garden smaller, cant get grass to grow there because of this weed.

Yes it will. But he didn't ask to kill grass. Besides glyphosate and 2,4d make a great tank mix. Although diquat and gramoxone will also kill it. They both are desiccants. They will burn off the tops within hours not days. Especially gramoxone. Also non selective herbicides. But more drift potential and gramoxone is restricted use. In cool weather glyphosate can take a week or longer to work. As it must translocate to the roots before killing the plant.

2,4d is in the middle. It's a growth regulator. It causes some cells to rapidly grow while others stop. This is what causes the classic crookneck of 2,4d and other dicambas.

In a garden setting I'd till under the current weeds. Then at planting. Once the soil disturbing is done I'd spray dual or degree. They are both grass herbicides although I think dual works better. Safe for most garden plants. It's what I use on my garden. Read the label.

Applying 2,4d will effect the germination of grasses. For the time period that was specified earlier. So don't spray 2,4d over new grass seed. For best control of the Henbit spray in very early spring or late fall. Then sow grass seed once it's safe to do so.

53.5F @ 01:45 ... just woke up a little bit ago ... probably due to a line of thunderstorms that moved through ... a couple of rumbles and then a downpour ...

Met friend at the place his wife is looking to lease at 10:00 this morning ... contractor didn't show up until 10:45 ... which was 45 minutes late ... and no call. Not a good sign.

Got the mill scale pretty much stripped off the two trapezoidal plates that form the attachment point for the QA plate as well as the scale on the rest of the two crosstubes. Worked a little more on the 2" x 3" rectangular tube as well ... it ain't white metal, but it's clean enough to weld up I guess. Will clean the rest of it off prior to painting. Also got the mounting brackets for the rear remotes, diverter valve, and quick couplers cleaned a final time. All steel moved up to the shed. Got the 3rd mast welded up.

Picked up about eight gallons of diesel for the parts washer.

Moved the top jaw for the grapple out of the polebarn up to the shop, along with a 20 gallon drum to drain the parts washer into.

Moved 4 or 5 more bucket loads of mulch down to the blueberries. Filled up a couple of bird feeders.

Wife informed me when she got home yesterday that one of the neighbors had his four-wheeler lifted recently, according to another neighbor. Seems he had been storing it in his garage, but then got a new vehicle and moved the four-wheeler into his back yard. Derelicts ...

At this point, anyone who I don't know (and mebbe a few that I do) that ventures onto our property without our permission, ignoring the "No Treaspassing" signs in the process, will be detained until the police arrive.

If I didn't have henbit, chickweed, violets, and a few others, I would have much lawn in places. :)

56 going to 73 and rain later today.

Cut down 7 huge fence row cedars yesterday and dragged to a brush pile...I wanted to get that done before the birds selected one for a nest...didn't find any.

Getting ready to head out to turkey hunting grounds to listen for gobbling at dawn. Spring season opens in a little over a week.

Morning all. Hope you all slept well. 58 here this morning going to 68. 50% chance of showers today mostly this evening. Need to mow about 2 to 2 /12 hrs today before the rain gets here. Also need to get groceries today and gas the car. The pollen is getting fairly bad so mowing is not as much fun as it could be.
Looking forward to tomorrow, wife and I plan to have a "date" and go out window shopping for the new house. Hope to look at a storage shed for me to use as my new shop and some furniture as well. Have a great day Ed

Yesterday morning the Gobblers were gobbling over the ridge from where I was walking the dog.

Yes there are a lot of turkeys that live here, and I'm not one of them so don't even try that joke!

Much warmer 53 degrees this morning, nothing like yesterday.

I had way too much real work, and then my daughters so I ain't fixed the tractor yet, not even a quote (I emailed my dealer, but no response).

Work is busy, I'm trying to finish my taxes, my Ex has me filling out extra paperwork for child support, tractor has tire issue, mower has a dead battery, Harley needs an inspection, good gravy, Calgon take me away!

I'm behind in everything it seems, but I'm smiling and it beats pushing up daises big time!

Be well all-O-Y'all!
David

58 this morning and headed to 75 today. 1.1 inches of rain overnight lots of lightning and thunder too. Another inch is predicted for today.

I'm off again today. Taking care of boy. He's had a rash develop on his hand and foot. So back to the doctor this morning.

Wingsprd, when season starts, what do you hunt turkeys with? Shotgun with birdshot, buckshot?

Got roped into picking a friend up in Wilmington, another long drive. Route 17 South on and on. Will suck up the whole day.
And then tomorrow my first wife and her husband come to stay the night on their way headed South.
Obviously we all get along just fine. Weather will be poor for a visit, heavy rain likely for several days.
Well, that will water the new plants. Have to look for the silver lining.

Bet you have purple deadnettle also. It grows along with the Henbit and chickweed. I here you on the lawn. Once you get grass growing increase your cut height to 3" or more. It'll let the grass out compete some of the weeds.

Of the winter weeds the purple deadnettle is the worst one. They are host plants to SCN. SCN is very detrimental to yields in soybeans unless you test for them and plant the correct variety and resistance package. SCN=Soybean Cyst Nematodes. A fall herbicide can quickly pay for itself when used to reduce SCN numbers.

Good luck on the turkey scouting. Didn't realize season was this close. Will explain why my flocks of turkey's have left.

These are the weeds i want gone from my yard.

Buckeye;

I've had good results with Bonide Products. Not as cheap as the crap they sell at big box stores but it works.

The Weedbeater Complete Is both Pre-emergent and Post-emergent herbicide.

I've used in on both St. Augustine and Sahara Bermuda lawns.
