I didn't read all the posts so forgive me if this is a repeat. Most if not all manufacturers have tightened up their Internet advertising rules and will not let dealers advertise price below a certain percentage off list.
That is why you see call or a higher price than you like. They are also trying to direct prospective buyers back to their local dealer instead of pricing a bunch of dealers that are a long way away for the "best" price. Remember, when you buy the from the cheapest guy 100 miles away and take it to your local dealer 10 mi. away, that local guy is getting stiffed because manufacturers pay a lot less on warranty than the actual repair takes so your local guy loses on the guy that bought 100 mi. away. Unfair to local guy.
If the guy 100 mi. away was worth going to, then you the customer ought to take it back to him so he can lose the money, not the guy that was probably fair to begin w/. As I have said 100 times before on here,
A dealer loses on warranty. Manufacturers only pay pre-determined rates and hours which are mostly un-realistic to achieve. It is not an open ticket, in fact many small things aren't even claimable, like adjustments, "tweeks" and diagnostic. Dealers take it in the shorts on warranty. That's why a selling dealer has to make a profit. The dealer 100 mi. away pretty much assumes you'll take it locally so he's out nothing and knows it. His opinion is let the local guy take the hit which isn't fair.
