What gives with dealers on tractor house?

/ What gives with dealers on tractor house? #91
Kind of frustrated...Looking on tractor house, seems most listings are "Call for Price"
When you call, they take your info, but don't call you back!
I received two prices out of 6 dealers. I guess Ill have to beg a dealer to take my cash!
Ive even contacted that Barlows..No response!

Very common with industry publications, This is done to prevent price wars.
You will get a better price if they see future business.

Whenever I go to Tractor House, my browser can't back out of it (with back button). So I end up clicking a bunch of times.
Is this just my computer?
Conspiracy Theory:
Or is this a way for them to get a few million extra clicks, so they can use those numbers when they sell spots to dealers????
Like the **** sites trap you, once u click...not that I would know anything about that, of coarse. :ashamed:

I didn't read all the posts so forgive me if this is a repeat. Most if not all manufacturers have tightened up their Internet advertising rules and will not let dealers advertise price below a certain percentage off list.
That is why you see call or a higher price tha you like. They are also trying to direct prospective buyers back to their local dealer instead of pricing a bunch of dealers that are a long way away for the "best" price. Remember, when you buy the from the cheapest guy 100 miles away and take it to your local dealer 10 mi. away, that local guy is getting stiffed because manufacturers pay a lot less on warranty than the actual repair takes so your local guy loses on the guy that bought 100 mi. away. Unfair to local guy.
If the guy 100 mi. away was worth going to, then you the customer ought to take it back to him so he can lose the money, not the guy that was probably fair to begin w/. As I have said 100 times before on here,
A dealer loses on warranty. Manufacturers only pay pre-determined rates and hours which are mostly un-realistic to achieve. It is not an open ticket, in fact many small things aren't even claimable, like adjustments, "tweeks" and diagnostic. Dealers take it in the shorts on warranty. Thatt's why a selling dealer has to make a profit. The dealer 100 mi. away pretty much assumes you'll take it locally so he's out nothing and knows it. His opinion is let the local guy take the hit which isn't fair.

Once again the little guy (dealer) gets shafted by the man. Too bad, they can't play hardball. Post a sign saying no warranty on equipment not purchased here or a different set of rates and rules for outside equipment. Manufacturers often bully their dealers. Quite sad actually.

Interesting....a dealer has posted here that dealers make more on service and parts after the sale than the original sale.

While dealer determined service rates are individually set . . Dealers do not lose money on warranty work . . But they may or may not make as much as their own service rates. It all depends on the efficiency and quality of the servicing person. This is no different than doing insurance claims work. It is established as a national shop rate times the time to pergorm.

Engine29, I've taled to several service centers at local and distant tractor dealers and ALL of them have told me they would welcome my service and warranty business. The only difference for them . . Is if they are slammed with work . . they need to take their direct customers who bought thebproduct there . .1st . . . not because of compensation . . but because they have to make sure their direct customers get up and going in emetgrncies.

Each service dept. has said they would desire my service and warranty work . . and the dealer I bought from definitely has encouraged me to have it done with them.

I even get parts and service flyers from a local dealer and invites to their customer appreciation promos.

So engine29, what are you talking about? Warranty work may not be as fat and juicy as some dealers shop rates are . . but they all make money on them . . It isn't done for free or at a loss.

Unless you know something that the dealers/service depts. haven't told me.

I'll listen to logic and facts . . But not guesses that countradict their dealers own statements and actions.

I'm all ears engine29.
