Happy New Year! Saw it come in over at friends while having dinner, watching football, some fireworks, and playing Mexican Train.

sounds good Roy. Odd I stayed up until midnight too, which I never do, but I watched movies
and then read a good book and
knew it was midnight by the guns going off. Sounded like World War III.
I think the aliens started to invade right around midnight.
From the sound of it, we got them all...

53 going to 56 today, start of drier weather thankfully. Then much colder tonight which is where I suppose that nice dry air is coming from. Up North.
All the hot steamy stuff comes from down South. Would make quite a thriller movie if all of a sudden that switched. All the tigers and monkeys would be migrating North while the polar bears and moose would be heading South. And when they meet in Iowa, look out...

Now there's a scenario where you'd be glad you had a gun, or two, in the house...
I wonder what the sound would be like if several million rifles and shotguns were chambered at one time.
Likely all those critters would want to go around Texas for sure...
I want movie rights...

But I don't want some shot in the sky at night slug coming down through my roof either.
When all that booming starts, sure wonder where it's all aimed. Good time to stand by the chimney or something solid.
I was six years old when my Dad dug a rifle slug out of the mortar two feet to the right of our home's front door, which looked out over 30 acres of fields.
So I learned early on to be a little cautious when the local militia starts blasting away. July 4th and New Year's Eve the lead starts to fly.

30 this morning and headed to 41 today. Weatherman says if sun doesn't come out today then he'll quit. . Well ok he really didn't but sometimes I wish he would. Anyways supposed to be sunny today.


Back to spreading gravel and then up to dad's to hang his year old garage door openers.

Drew. Good movie plot. Hmmmm. Most people don't think about what's beyond their target and if it's just the sky, well no harm done.

Good Morning. 1115, rain, 74F with 96% humidity. Forecast high of 71F {?} with 100% chance of rain today, and a low of 55F tonight. I stayed at the camp again last night. Rain on a tarp roof can be loud. The plan for the day is to watch some Bowl games, starting with the Peach Bowl. {I'm letting a little time elapse before I start watching so I can skip the ads} You guys have a good one, Larro Thanks for posting that. I'm a big Austin City Limits fan, and hear the snippet of the song every Saturday night. That was the first time I had heard it the whole way though and the story behind it.

Peach Bowl, I'm happy Larro. You are probably not?

Congrats Roy. Now 69 I sometimes wish I had waited and not drawn at 62, but then I think about having used that money to pay down the mortgage and still think that was a better investment with my little check.

Never did understand the shooting into the air thing, those bullets do come down somewhere. When watching the news broadcasts of such in the Middle East, I kept waiting the the guys next to shooter to fall.

Good Morning & Happy New Year. 1120, rain, 52F with 91% humidity. Forecast high of 55F with 60% chance of rain today, and a low of 44F tonight. I slept at the camp again last night. The rain was so loud I had to get in the sleeping bag and hold the radio next to my ear to hear the game. Getting into the sleeping bag too early leads to not being awake at midnight. {the last score I heard was 24-0}

After we have our black eyed peas, I'm going to walk over and put out corn at the shooting house. I might even sit for a little while. It is finally cool enough to shoot something.

You are right, I'm an un-reformed Nole fan. Congrats on the win. Your guys played better than my guys did. Shockingly, we have a good hoops team this year. If our big name freshmen can keep getting better, we may be playing in the spring. The next three days will tell a lot about the youngsters. We play Clemson tomorrow and North Carolina on Monday. (Basketball is my favorite {stick and ball} sport)

I applied and got it for a while in 2012, then suspended it when we moved to Vermont. Haven't drawn it since, but since I'm now 66 and there is no penalty (since I'm going to continue working), I figured.."why not?". Paid into it for 40 plus years..

I have shot in the air on New Year's Eve...not for years (decades?) though. If I ever decide to do it again, I'll get a box of blanks...but I doubt I ever decide to do it again.
I was quite surprised how quiet it was last night...didn't hear any shooting at all this year.

Time for a somewhat rare culinary treat, as The Woman will be making sausage dumplings and sauerkraut, a traditional New Year's recipe handed down from my Grandmother. Possibly a pie of some sort as well.
