Been using some of the KleenStrip "safer" muriatic acid with a paint brush to remove rust and mill scale ... I'd use a pump sprayer to make it easier and get better coverage, but I'm not real keen on atomizing it into the air ... brushing it on is plenty bad enough.

As usual, RS, yer makin' the rest of us look bad. Slow down a little so we can catch up, OK? ;)

The latest batch of POR-15 Metal Prep came in a squirt bottle, and seems pretty aggressive on ferrous metal. At least it foams a bit, but doesn't sting when it gets on my skin. Anyway, the squirt bottle might be a nice middle ground way to apply that Muratic acid, as long as you stand up wind in any breeze. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to use safety glasses and Nitril golves, too, but I think a respirator would be over-the-top. Squirt bottles can be found in the cleaning supply section of your local Home Depot.

Good morning all. 77F this morning and only partly cloudy so forecast is for 98F today. Humidity is in the way back up so the HI will start soaring again :( , been nice having a few day with the HI below 100F. Bike ride is done going out to mow. Power washing tomorrow.

Warm day but saved by good breeze, had to chase my hat a couple times. It's still 78F.

Got back to work today taking apart the rock retaining wall that got my finger. The wall was partly made up of roundish boulders and large rocks which turned out to be way more retaining strength than needed plus with settling it was leaning into the vinyl siding at the building end of the wall. Not good.

I was able to tear it apart with the backhoe and haul off the rocks I won't use for rebuilding. Had to push four boulders into the woods that were too big to do anything else with. Anyways, it was good to that done. It was 99% tractor and backhoe operation but at least it keeps the blood moving. :D

Farmer2009, glad you enjoyed the hatchery article. I enjoy your comments about your operation too.

65 right now..a considerably cooler 78 as the high. Looks like it'll be in the upper 70's for the rest of the week. I hope it stays in the 70's.

Went to a podiatrist yesterday about the toe. It's probably going to come off. The next step is a vascular specialist to check the blood flow in the leg. After that, chop chop.

Good morning. A reasonable day in prospect, but I'm giving up trying to guess the weather for a while.

Yesterday -

  • No rain forecast in the next 12 hours - Check.
  • No rain showing on the radar maps - Check.
Hook up weed wiper and within a few minutes -

[Sorry, you will just have to use your imagination here - I was going to show you a picture from inside the Iseki's cab, with rain streaming down the cab windows, but tbn is not letting me upload pictures :confused3: ]

This wiper is proving to be a serious rain magnet. I'm tempted to get it out more often to end the drought but neighboring farmers say don't want me to try using it again until they have finished bailing. Maybe you should try one RNG, could be better than a rain dance. :)

Sorry to hear it is serious Roy. Good job you plucked up the courage to get it looked at.

71 with 93 and maybe T storms later...we need the rain.

Roy, sorry about your toe.

Dave, glad your finger isn't keeping you off your tractor.

Got the oil changed in the mower yesterday - finally switched to synthetic. Been using synthetic in the vehicles for many years, but not the tractor or other equipment. I do change the oil frequently.

Did some shovel work around my bridge, removing some debris that collected from the earlier storms, and moving some sand and mud. I picked some rocks from my rock pile that I've collected from my fields over the years, and am planning to use mortar to build a couple of small retaining walls on either side of the bridge...more for decoration that anything.

Seems awful dark for this time of the morning.
