Who can afford a new truck anymore?

lol,

do fine with electric trucks?? love to see a semi haul the loads it does with an electric motor and go the distance on a battery vs fuel tank.

10-4!

I haul equipment almost every day....No way some foofy electric anything is going to work for me. My wife drives a diesel too, and she won't be giving up her right to roll coal on a tailgating prius anytime soon!

Mileage or mpg is not a measure of efficiency. Two people in the truck is getting same milage as a Prius. If you have a load it's getting more. This week my wife drove the suburban with eight people in it, to take a medical exam, a Prius would have taken two trips to complete the same job. A truck is more efficient and uses less fuel than a hybrid, it's why there are trucks, and it's much more useful to people who can only afford one vehicle hence why it's the most popular vehicle sold in America. They can charge anything they want for a truck and people will pay it because a truck represents their manhood (sort of like they've convinced us that watching overpaid meatheads chase a ball around a field (NFL) is somehow a manly thing to do.)

Truck commercials use to hint that you should buy a truck "cause it's manly", now they are blatantly out in the open about it. "Don't buy our truck cause it's reliable, powerful, better than the competition, etc... No! No! Buy our truck so you won't be seen as a gay, tree huggin, puppy lovin, environmentalist, caffe latte drinking liberal!!" "Women will find you attractive!" "Men will want you to marry their daughters!" As long as they can market to men's insecurity about their "manhood", they'll charge anything they want.

Never mind that most of these road queens will never have anything in the useless 4'-5' cargo bed behind the quad cab, chrome, leather, electronic gizzmo'd interior.

It's a Man's car! Like the bumper sticker says: "Nice truck, sorry about your small......"

I get a kick out of the $60,000 rides I see with a 5 foot box and they have to put a bike or ski rack on the roof or on the hitch behind the tailgate. What the...? It's a truck!

I used to get a real kick out of these faux macho types laughing at my old Toyota Echo.
The poking fun stopped rather quickly when stepping out of my vehicle. *Oh ****! This guy looks like he was doing actual physical labor on a farm* No need to say anything once they figure out their manicures would get severely messed up if they continued to poke the bear.

Lots of people have trucks on my road, yet none of them have a farm. In fact, I'm one of the only people without one. Haven't had one in about 10 years. I just use an old used V8 Explorer to tow stuff now.

I guess my manhood is measured by the vehicle I happen to be driving :)

The F150 is usually well hidden by a thick layer of mud and a bed full of farm tools, wire or whatever else I've been working with. The Silverado 2500 shines like a dime in a goats rear - no work here - yet :) Maybe that requires khakis? The Prius, I'll just borrow some of the wife's panties and lip stick :)

Hmmmmm ... We bought a 2010 Prius BECAUSE it gets about 50mpg. It had NOTHING to do with Eco or Status. The Prius has cost us not one cent in maintenance beyond oil changes. We bought an extended warranty that is fully refundable - if it is not used (and it has not been.) The Prius is a GREAT CAR. It is well built, peppier than you would think and we will probably replace it one day with another.

I agree "full" electric cars are not ready for prime time. However, electric motors can produce tremendous pull power and blazing speed and acceleration. Their day is coming. If you doubt the power of electric, just take a look at a modern locomotive.

Electric would have plenty of power. Just can't store enough energy for it. I am pretty sure locomotives are power by electric motors (the energy comes from diesel engines). As for the Prius it costs too much - a plain Civic gets 80% as much gas mileage and is a whole lot cheaper. And doesn't have a $3500 battery.
