Few John Deere's and one Ford 3600 diesel.
I have been kicking around the idea that my next truck is going to be a 3/4 ton (or a 1 ton SRW). I'm probably 3 years away from buying but may jump earlier than that if I can find a deal that's just too good to pass up. I don't want a new diesel and the new gas engines in these trucks get gas mileage that you can live with to be honest. The reason I'm seriously debating going away from half ton's is the prices are getting a bit ridiculous for me and for a handful more money you can step into a very well equipped 3/4 truck that is a WHOLE lot more capable. I'm waiting to see what the new F-250's are going to be like and also see what changes GM does to the HD's next year (for the 2017 model year). I'm also considering the current F-250's and 2500 hd's that are already here incase I don't like the new ones. Right now I'm favoring the F-250 but the catch is my local dealers have always been terrible. However, a friend of mind recently became a salesman at one of the local Ford dealership's and I know he wouldn't try to screw me over, so maybe this time I can actually get a decent deal! Ford and GM both have $4,000 off the 3/4 trucks right now plus both are offering a $750 rebate for USAA which I'm a member of. It seems like the Ford dealers option up their XL and XLT trucks more to my liking than what the big GM dealership that does a ton of fleet sales (sells to the state and county and has rows and rows and rows of all types of commercial trucks from 1500's to chassis cab's). I haven't driven either one yet, just stopped to look whenever I passed by after the dealerships were closed.

Another thing I'm debating is going with a 2wd. I've always had 4x4's in all my trucks but like I said, just something I'm debating. I'm also going to drive the regular cabs and extended/crew cabs. It seems that many of the extended cab and crew cabs are long beds and mostly diesels for whatever reason. Also it seems like the only gas trucks I find are regular cab or extended cab. Like I said, I'm going to consider all my options but I'm 90% sure my next truck will be a 3/4 or 1 ton SRW and I'm 99.999% sure it'll be gas. I don't mind the work truck packages to be honest, but I'd want a backup camera and xm radio, and electric windows and locks. That's it. Oh and roof lights. Anyone looked or own a 6.2 or a 6.0?

I bought a new 2015 Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 6.0 gasser Double Cab in September. Put on Krank wheels for a snappy look and drove away for just under $60K.

This is my first Chevy truck, having always stayed with Ford for my trucks. Although I "may" find a use for the 2500 muscle, it was bought primarily to go to the local Sonic and get a Coke. I looked at F250, F350, 2500 & 3500 trucks. I chose the 2500 because it looks the best :)

If you're worried about gas mileage, this truck is NOT for you - lol. My average, with about 3000 miles on the odo, is around 12mpg.

I check the Carmax website occasionally hoping to find a 06/07 Duramax but they are few and far between or came from up north where they lived all their life. I'm just not sure about these new diesels. Tons of horror stories and thousands of dollars in repairs for the slightest thing.

You wanna donate the extra 8k for a diesel? It takes many many miles to break even with a diesel...

I have an 06 2500hd with the 6.0. Good motor and truck. Short bed crew cab. 150k miles. Fuel mileage is about 11 mpg. Spend the extra the a heavy transmission that's the weak link. Mines starting to slip.

Know a guy with a 12 crew cab short bed 6.0 or 6.2 not sure. He likes his also. Says he gets 14 mpg. Know this because he called and asked if I liked mine before he bought. Then he called back to tell me how much he liked it. I warned him about the transmission and he made sure it was the heavier one. He has a 2.5" receiver hitch also.

That and in hearing more problems with def fluid than I am the diesels themselves. One bad batch of def fluid and hello repair bills that the warranty won't cover because YOU put in the def fluid or some such excuse they'll find to weasel out of honoring your warranty. The risk is just greater than the reward for me.

I had and sold 2011 ford F-250 with the 6.2.Went back to a F-150 since I don,t tow that heavy any longer.I like the 6.2 motor had a lot towing power.

I've got a 2003 2500 HD crew cab short bed with 8.1L gas and 6 speed Allison transmission. This is the LT version, so it has all of the bells and whistles that were available in 2003, with a price tag around $56k. 100k miles on it today with no issues.

It drinks gas and oil like a drunk with $250 in cash and a long weekend ahead. 10 mpg average (13 highway), and a quart of oil every 2,500 miles.

It's the smoothest riding truck (or vehicle for that matter) I've ever owned. The 8.1L has power to spare. I towed a fully loaded 7,000 lb enclosed trailer over Mt. Hood (about 6% grade) doing 60 without skipping a beat, passing many cars along the way.

If I had to do it again, I'd go with a diesel. The gasser just doesn't get the mileage of the diesel.

Hahaha, two new Superduty 6.7 Powerstrokes here that have already had the cabs off and a brand new 3500 Denali dually that has been down for months, two dealers gave up on it and they finally had to have an engineer from the powertrain dept come and try to diagnose it.
I wouldn't even think of touching one of these new diesel pickups unless you really need to haul something big on a regular bases. Or unless you just like to throw money away.

I have an 04 hd 2500 6.0 gasser extended 4x4. Bought new for $28k (ls model). 147k, just did front brakes, rears at 135k. Both front wheel bearing went at around 100k. Trunk has been awesome! Rockers are just starting to rust (mildly) not sure if I have the heavy trans.

You did well. That is a very nice looking truck and the wheels make it look extra sharp. And I'm a Ford man.

Yes, all the emissions issues are ridiculous.

I got a 2015 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L gas LT Z71 4.10 diffs with snow plow prep package around the 1st of March. Stickered at $48K, got it for $39K and a free Line-X bed package thrown in. Am very pleased with it. Just did a road trip for business/vacation and pulled off a 16.7 mpg (hand calculated which was less than 1/10th difference from the DIC) for the 1243 mile round trip on 87 octane E10 fuel only. Various brands. It has gotten about 14.8 lifetime mpg avg for all miles, just turned over 6000 miles. First pickup that I have been comfortable with since my '98 2500. Had a 2013 1500 that I invented new swear words over.

There's an F-250 XL, 4x4, extended cab with the diesel, roof lights, factory spray in bed liner, vinyl seats on one of the local Ford lots that stickers for $48k(I believe, could be $49k, can't remember). I like my 2014 1500 Z71 and it hasn't given me any problems other than a couple recalls I had to do. However, there is a sound coming from the rear end at times. It makes the sound like when you have the hitch in when it moves around (that's the best way I can describe the sound). So, I thought it was the hitch moving around, took it out, nope still doing it. Dealer doesn't have any idea what it is but it never seems to do it whenever the dealer drives it either. Does it sometimes with me, although I can't replicate it after it does it. It just does it randomly. I've pulled some decent loads with the truck using it on the farm but never anywhere close to the 9500# tow rating. I dunno, just worried the rear end is going to grenade on me the day after the warranty runs out. Rear end blew up on my friends 2014 GMC and he traded for a 2015 after GM bought the truck back. Just strongly considering moving up to a heavier duty truck next time. Vinyl seats are fine with me, preferred actually. The cloth seats in my truck aren't all that comfortable and you'd swear on your mother's grave that the vinyl seats are the SAME seats they call "leather" in the higher trim level trucks.

Same engine. Same gears. You're beating the *&*&)*^%* out of my mpg!!! I even baby the thing along most of the time.

That is a beautiful truck! Congrats!

I love my '14 1500, but there have been times since owning it that I have thought it would be nice to move up to a gaser 2500. It's less about an actual need and more about wanting a bit more of a buffer when towing heavy through the hills. However, for the number of times I actually tow heavy I just can't justify the type of mpg most people are getting on a truck that would be a daily driver.
