Roy, are you missing Dillsburg yet with those temps up there? Any day you get a new tractor is a good day, congrats.

I use my backhoe more that I figured I would. 59 hrs out of 154 total so far on the tractor using the backhoe. I put my tractor log in a spreadsheet, and have it marked as backhoe, loader work, move pellets, mowing, and snow removal.

Nah...not Dillsburg. But I sure miss that lower tax rate in PA!!
And, as beautiful as Vermont is...the winter cold (mostly single digit night and early morning temperatures) is getting tough on me.

I did buy the 4520. The dealer had the backhoe rigged to the tractor by this morning. The ground is too frozen to dig, but the 'hoe seemed to operate OK...and it would pick up the back of the tractor.
There's a few minor items the dealer is going to fix...and I'll be doing some compounding and paint repair when the weather warms up. Nothing major...just the wear and tear one would expect from a tractor that's spent it's life outside. I'll have to rig up some kind of grab handle too...pretty awkward getting in and out of the cab.

I do have one decision to make...the tires. If you saw the picture I'd posted, the machine has industrials on it now. The dealer has a set of turfs (almost brand new) he'll install for free. I won't be lawn mowing with the 4520 (got a zero-turn for that). I will be mowing a field and clearing snow. I'm not sure which tire I want on the tractor. Turfs are great in the snow, but the industrials would handle the field mowing chores better...plus, I need to clear a trail to the White River down off the field. It's going to be a tough decision

OH. I won't hold my breath then.

No Sir, I just write the checks to pay my ransom. Hopefully I'm going totally Ag next year.

It's your decision but my vote would be for the r-4's. Better all terrain traction. They're not terrible on snow. Never had turfs though. My zero turn doesn't even have turfs it's a directional ATV tire.

Having had both tires think I would chose turf over R4s just for snow going ability

Perhaps look at how many months you have snow vs grass field cutting

My vote is for the industrial tires. Way more versatile. The turf tires are too limited in to use.

You will love that backhoe.

That was mean! Here its 25 and we are waiting for a snow storm.

murphy, you'll be laughing more when it's 110F in the shade here, and it's only April! I've only been here four years, and the locals say it's never been this hot and dry in their memory.

Maybe I should start thinkin' about movin' to one of those thirty-six dollar a year trailer parks in Michigan?

No problem coolin' off there, eh 300UGUY? ;)

Our property taxes come due in July. There will always be arguments over paying taxes for things people don't use, but in general it probably comes out in the end, sometime in your life. Part of my taxes goes to the local community college, which my kids don't attend.

Got my W2 today, so am working of the big taxes, ouch.... So far I owe, and I don't have too many writeoffs since the house is almost paid for.

Roy, I had R4's on my first kubota (L3130) and on the L5030. Ags on the L3940 and MF. If no lawn work, I prefer Ag tires. I used to mow my yard with the R4's, and it was good for that. R4's don't hold very well on side hills, wish I had Ag on the L5030 since it is used for field work. Ag much better in mud and snow than R4. I never had turf so can't compare them.

I vote R-4s too. Because of FEL use. Need a stiffer side wall.

26F with snow nearby. Now we have a foot of snow forecast for Tuesday with gusty NW winds. Guess I better prep the tractor tomorrow.

Took a nice walk this morning, feels good to stretch the legs. I walked across the frozen beaver pond which is always a different perspective. The only fresh tracks I saw were coyotes, hare and squirrel.

Congrats on the tractor Roy! Devil's choice on the tires. R4s should be better for supporting heavy loader work, but I bet turfs are better in snow, especially if the R4s have much age on them as tires tend to harden some overtime and with sun exposure.
