Texas Fall/Winter thread!

Off and on rain since this morning. Was able to get a walk in between showers. It's raining pretty good right now, and supposed to be with us until later tonight. Lost work day here (outside), but we need the rain. My neighbor put down some oats a few weeks ago, and they are coming up nicely. Our rye should do well this week. We put it down last Sunday after a rain, and with the sun and temps expected to be mid 60s, conditions should be ideal.

I tried to do some bush hogging yesterday in our bottom land. The grass/weeds were so thick and damp. I kept having to slow to a crawl to keep the bush hog clutch from squealing. It was having a tough time. I'm sure the resident hawk will be happy. I saw at least 4 rodents with no place to hide now. I got maybe 5 or 6 acres done. It was just too hard on everything being damp.

Sure wish we could have got this rain back in July.

I'm showing 2.3" in my gauge and a nice steady rain .. Makes for a lazy day!!

Radar shows rain all around us, but not here. But I guess my .30" is better than what the Denton Airport (10 miles from here) got. NWS is showing .09" there.

Weather Station closest to us (about 6 miles away) is showing .74 inches. Skies have cleared and radar is clean. Weather Underground is saying 90% chance of showers through 9 p.m. Written forecast says storms through 7p.m. with 40 mile per hour winds, and pea sized hail.

Here comes the next round. Getting quite the light show. Just brought the horses in. Don't want them outside in the lightening. SA News is also saying hail is coming with this band. Should start seeing the rain in about 15 minutes. It looks like it just entered Seguin.

I just checked my rain gauge. I can't believe we got an inch and a half in all that drizzle!
hugs, Brandi

And I got exactly half that much, Brandi; three-quarters of an inch. But I guess I was lucky at that. The NWS shows the Denton airport only got .39".

Looks like the rain is over. Total from Friday till now = 3.43" It's starting to look like fall with the oaks turning yellow.

1.43 inches yesterday. Nice clear blue skies today. Should be drier and warmer. Too wet to do any heavy work outside, but should set up some good conditions for the coming 4 day weekend. Horses are happy to be back out side. Chickens are making some good finds.

I had brought the rain gauges in for the winter, with the last hard freezes, but if the amount of rain I had to dump from buckets, etc. was any indication, I received ~3/4" of drizzle yesterday! Never came hard, just a light drizzle that soaked in most of the day. I do have a couple of low spots with some standing water, as of early this morning, but they'll be dry in this sunshine and wind.

Had plans to be out flying today, but the wind has me staying home and cleaning house. Once was a time, didn't matter much the weather. If an airplane was equipped for the conditions, I went. Now that it is almost all for fun, I find I am a little more picky about flying conditions!

BlueRiver: That gate is awesome!! If I had a place for it, I'd want one, for sure!!

Holiday week upon us. I wouldn't mind, but it does mean that I have to do 5 day's worth of work in 2.5 days!! I'm just ready for Springtime again, as I plan to do a lot more traveling before the heat of summer, and busy work season hits, and don't have anything available that can handle icing conditions, should I encounter them. Winter STINKS, and it isn't even winter yet!

Our travel plans should get us in Lexington 12/1. Have not made plans with Don yet. Sounds like a good idea. Current plans have us leaving area on the 5th.

I might guess that youz guys will be tired of travelling on 12/1, and that you will be gone the 5th, so that leaves the 2nd,3rd, and the 4th. Any of those works for us. I would not be able to get there until about 6:30 (driving from College Station). If you guys want to go early and we'll just get there as soon as we can, that way, you won't be waiting on us.

We are limiting our travel days to 300 miles or less. That gives us a chance to relax each day. I will let others pick the date. On11/30 we will be stopping to visit Eddie Walker and his Family.

Ron do you have any events/places to attend or will this be a "Work" stop in central Texas.
If it is a work stop, I'll give you the choice of the chainsaw or the new grapple? We have miles of fence line to clear and this is the season. (Ron Season:D)
