Wife and I have been working on our 13 acre place for the last 5 years..got the home done last February, and have been doing and getting all the "stuff" to stay....well, Saturday is the day we turn it into our home....lond drive to work but the rewards will be awesome...so we say GOOD BYE to Houston!...Hello Madisonville, Texas...guna be a fun ride!.

But let me say moving 30 years of "crap"...is a pain...

See y'all in the country!

It seems a lot of folks are moving out of Houston and surrounding towns in favor of a more sedated country life. My daughter and son-in-law moved to an acreage sub-division about 50 mile drive to his work but they love it. They are putting lots of miles on the vehicles though.
I waited on moving to the country till I retired just so I wouldn't be buying a new car every 2-3 years but I would never go back to city life again. I hate to go to Houston for a visit due to all the people and cars, cars, cars.

I live in ranching country and 15 miles to nearest hospital BUT it was that distance to nearest hospital when I lived in Crosby Texas also and took much longer to drive it so I think I am in a better situation now than then as far as health care plus not much air pollution here either.

Congratulations. There is no better feeling the seeing your driveway and feeling the tension of the day disappear as you pull into your property.

Good news, indeed. Enjoy your country home. You will be glad you did.

Welcome to easy living, ha. ha. I waited until I retired the second time to get my 11 acres but wouldn't go back for anything. It does seem like the work is never done though, (fixing fences, taking care of the animals, bush hogging, the garden, etc.) but it is at my pace now.

High mileage cars and big gasoline bills are something we have lived with for the past 40 years. We moved on to an acreage in 1972 and haven't looked back. Even when we were scraping to get by, we considered the long drive worth it. Of course with kids, it meant we had to have two cars; preferably cars which get good gas mileage...and then when the kids got to be driving age, they both had their own vehicles...VW Bugs. Now that we're both retired, and the city has moved in on us it's not as much as a problem as it was.

Congrats. The driving will get old, but think of it as a retirement incentive. :)

Congratulations! The long commute drives won't last forever, there is light at the end of the freeway. :) Enjoy your new home location.

I have a suggestion --- maybe have 2 beers! Congrats and good luck.

those beers taste so good on the porch with hardly a sound being made and the clear blue sky

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The wife and I have been working on house plans for 2 years - lol. After a number of attempts found their way to the floor, we finally contracted a home designer and have made good progress. Looks like the floor plans are finally complete and we're ready to start working on ceilings and whatnot. With any look we'll break ground in the spring. This has all wound up costing twice as much as we were planning - LOL ... but it's going to be great!

Your move is certainly longer, as ours is only 5 miles to the farm from our current home. BUT, we share in your excitement and wish you great happiness in your new home.

Funny you should mention that; Sharn Jean has a new Mazda 5 and I love it. Wish it were a bit more comfy for long trips, but over all a great car. 36 mpg

When I bought my property in 1998 I moved out of the city but still had to go in to work every day.
When I made the left turn from the county highway to my road I could feel my blood pressure drop! That was every day.
