I don't recall guns being an issue in the mid term elections. Are you "loosing" it?

Almost all gun crime in New England, MA included, is gang bangers. At least since we got Whitey Bulger off the streets. There is very little stranger gun crime. And yes, Maine, Vermont and NH have higher gun ownership (mostly hunting rifles) and lower gun crime but the reason is that they have no inner cities to speak of and no gangbangers.

So what is your point, that guns in the hands of criminals are bad? Duh.

That is the point that lawful gun owners have been making to the Progressive Democrats AKA Socialists that run this state. Boston's population has increased by 60,000 in the last decade, and there are over 100 documented gangs, while BPD has increased by 20 officers. We need more police feet on the street, not more gun laws. But politicians would rather pander to folks like you, with a bill with their name on it. You are typical, though: well off suburbanites in lily-white enclaves who profess to know from afar what those evil cities need.

Martha Coakley still hasn't figured out that when you say, "it's not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts," then prosecutes a gun owner for "Improper Storage" because he had a hunting rifle in a locked closet, the veterans, law enforcement officers, small business owners and sportsman who comprise the gun owners in this state are going to turn out in a big way for Baker/Polito. Again, the expert from lily white Portsmouth speaks. MA has the highest violent crime rate of any state in the Northeast (https://www.census.gov/statab/ranks/rank21.html). The gun control lobby focuses on one narrow statistic to preach confiscation.

Obviously a gun is not the only way to protect yourself. It is a last resort and the prudent person has lights, locks, alarms, a dog or two, and situational awareness.

MA is the only state in New England with a large city. We all know inner city violence 1) distorts crime figures and 2) is pretty much confined to inner city zip codes.

As for Newtown, we don't allow AR15s in MA. Guess what, no mass shootings here either.
