About 43 here. Just taught my 9 year old how to make french toast. Put a wee bit of cinnayum on top.
Wife made coffee. Thanked the Lord for the day.

Weather folks are claiming a big rain event for Tues-Weds. We could use a shot. Our late to the party watermelon plant is doing quite well. Hope it doesn't freeze. Has about 8, 6-7" melons on it. It just barely survived the Aug drought. I thought it was a goner. But the nice Sept rains really kicked it into gear. Also, a cherry tomato plant has revived itself. I need to till the garden, but I don't want to kill the watermelons. I guess I'll just go around it.

Need to plan the fall/winter garden. Onions, purple and white. Maybe some lettuce and try broccoli. Those will be new. I really need to amend my soil.

Good morning all. Front came through yesterday windy w/ gut to 40 mph flat temps in the 40's. 25F this morning High near 50F and sunny, winds back to normal. No trick or treaters last night, one in 30 years. This morning got some dirt and sod for a water diversion project at the rental house. Spread some dirt there yesterday. Then a bike ride if I have the energy

68F and 2.48 inches rain last 24 hours. Been raining all night.

Gonna look at new gas grills this afternoon, time to replace the Brinkman, which sure looked good, but started the downhill slide just months old. Less than 3 years old
Will look at the Weber.

First day of muzzleloader season sooooo out before day light seating on my favorite stump...3 deer walk by before 9am,one could feel the chill in the air settling in home 10am temp 36F,noon light snow started to fall while blowing leaves 12:30pm I call it quits as snow change to rain,tomorrow afternoon finish leaves...guess I better be thinking hooking up snowplow soon.

40F @ 17:30 ... it just clouded up after being being sunny. Was kinda windy too ... but that has died off.

Just woke up and am enjoying my first cup of coffee.

Looks like it's starting to dry up a little ... the high tomorrow is only supposed to 47F but sunny ... might be a good day to start bucking logs for firewood. Have used up most of the wood next to the shed so that area can be cleaned up ... need to grab a couple of black locust poles from back in the woods to put down and set the firewood on to keep it off the ground.

Also need to head over to the polebarn before it gets dark and grab the wheelbarrow and take it up to the shop to mix the concrete.

Cleaned the chimney today, and filled the wood rack on the porch. With temps in the 40s (36 tonight), and gusts up to 20mph, I had a good excuse to fire up the woodstove. Nice and toasty now.

David...no prob with the grill talk...we use ours in the winter.

Just had a strange experience.

Sitting at the table sipping the last of my coffee, I glimpse a figure approaching the house. Now the house is about 350 ft down the drive from our gate, the gate about 1400 ft from the county road. No vehicle and the dogs didn't alert. Wife goes out and it's a woman asking if this is so and so's house. Never heard the name before. She leaves.

About 2 hours ago, wife and I walk up to our cottage, located just inside the gate. We have to do finally prep for guests arriving tomorrow. Wife had already been up earlier to collect the towels to launder. I immediately notice a container on the steps, cigarette butts. Not happy as we are a non smoking property. Go inside the cottage an notice immediately personal items on the sofa and items on the counter. We call out, but no answer. I go upstairs and sure enough someone is in the bed, wrapped in the quilt. Turns out to be same woman. Says she is waiting for so and so, again no name recognition and we have lived on the property since 2005. Told her she has to leave. Says she is embarrassed. Don't know her story, but a bit wary. This is a rural neighborhood, 1.5 miles off the highway. One doesn't just walk here by accident. There have been numerous scatter incidents. While I might not have been hospitable, wife does say I wasn't rude
Still strange.

Probably the best time of year, since they are going out of season most everywhere else, and manufacturers will want to reduce stock. Good time to by bicycles, too, as the new year models are hitting the shops.
