Sound's like some good bargain shopping. Don't tell my wife, or I'll be driving cross country. She cannot pass up nursery bargains. Every time she goes into town, some stray plant or plants follow her home.
and back at Lowes this morning for more, actually some mums I want to make a garden out of at the end of the lane.
Lot of the same bushes I paid 6-10 bucks for were there too, at 15-25 dollars. But honestly, the Lowes stuff was nicer, fuller, clearly had more professional care.
But I like dealing with the locals, and I know the plants are growing in the same dirt, or almost, and no one from Lowes was there with a bottle of their homemade pear sauce for sure...
this is a pretty big property from a landscaping standpoint and nothing has been done here in years. So I'm out like a garden painter with a pretty clean canvas, plus the nice existing trees and shrubs of course, but it's time to paint some color in there.
and boy oh boy is it easy to dig. As long as I don't hit roots, the digging is just easy as can be. Going to get the phd auger on when i get help from my neighbor. Too ungainly to put on by myself, not without hurting myself. It's a wobbler and tries to go everywhere and is a pinched hand or finger just waiting to happen trying to do it myself. I guess there is some wisdom with age. And scars on my body already from doing enough stupid things.
Nice haul from the nursery ... if those are the blue-green hostas, make sure you plant them where they won't get much - if any - sun thanks, they are going in down the driveway on the right, full shade. I hope they reproduce like crazy and move back into the woods.
