four wheel drive Don ,vs. four wheel steering
The drive part puts power to the front wheels and adds two differentials up front
the steering part adds a different suspension to the rear that will track the turn
two different things, 4wd makes the most sense of course.
Mine has none of the above and thus is mechanically fairly simple.

Most folk have gone to zero turns; particularly when a loaded X7 series JD is very close in price to a One series tractor.
This mower sits lower than a tractor, is super easy to slide into from both sides, so ease of use is right on for a non limber guy.

I read the manual and they want me to immediately push the throttle to full speed, for apparently all operations. That's nuts. Would you do that to your tractor?
Why would one want to do that to a three cylinder diesel, albeit tiny at one litre.
So they want apparently Mr. Idiot Harry Homeowner to just floor the throttle on this mower, while more educated Mr. Tractor owner say of a One series would warm up his unit, like waiting for a bar or two on the temp gauge. Ahhhhh. NO temp gauge on this mower. No temp gauge on a diesel engine? Just a Buzzer of Doom alarm.
think I'm going to get them to put a temp gauge on.

Don, from what I'm told, 4wd is a common choice, but 4WS is not.
Those front diffs on the 4wd had a 50 hour lube change interval which I thought was pretty demanding.

Good morning all. 68F and fog this morning, going to 88F chance of thunderstorms and rain late this evening. When rain starts will have about 24 hours of on and off rain. Drew, on thing to consider on your new engine. Friend of mines had a 0 time Jacobs radial aircraft engine installed, and "they" said to run it at very high power settings (chrome cylinders). He did not and the rings did not seat properly in the normal time frame.

I know David...congrats on your move...wise man...If it weren't for family ties here ...the Mrs. and I would be asking for your advice on finding a place on Maui...we loved it there...Paradise for sure. --- Oh and Hana too...
