Never heard of Victor Brand - is it regional to your area of the country ?

Victor brand, we buy it from Amazon. Our 2 dogs love it. My older dog has really leaned up and has more energy since switching. The 1 year old is a ball of energy. I'm not sure which color bag it is but it's the one that rates the highest at the food comparison sites. Good price for what you get. I did a ton of research before I settled on this one.

Hunting season is coming around again and I still have a bit of venison (ground with pork 10 percent) and some venison chops................ any reason I could not cook up a bit if this 20 month old frozen venison and mix it in with my dry dog food for my five year old Australian Shepherd ? I don't want to spoil her by just giving her venison instead of the dry for a week or two........and probably too rich anyway...thoughts ?

I can't find it locally so I don't think so. I think I read that Cosco may sell it but Amazon free 2 day shipping to Prime accounts works for me.

I don't know about your hunting dogs, but when I'm out hunting with my dogs I can't believe what they end up eating when they find something! YUCK.

Anyway, think about the history of canines. They survive in the wild by a big kill and then gorging themselves on raw meat and the residue for quite some time. I don't think mixing venison with dried dog food will do the slightest harm. It may even be better to feed the venison raw.

Sharon knows a dog owner in Alaska that tosses part of a moose or caribou carcass in the yard and lets the dogs go at it. They love it. Some are from hunting, some from fresh(er) road kills.

I think our dogs are often a bit bored. Raw meat and bones gives them something interesting to do, and it is nutritious, good for the teeth and gums too.

Tried to use this today. Store computer wouldn't accept it for some reason. Thinking it was a single use coupon that went to a specific e-mail. Store still gave me $10 off anyway.

Coupon didn't work at my store, until they scanned both bar codes, then no problem.

Did you print it out or have to them scan it from phone. My TSC, in Palatka, wouldn't take any coupons that aren't printed.

I only have a dumb phone! I printed it out,and it wouldn't work until they scanned the bar codes on both of them.

Thanks for the reply. Right now we are using Nutro Max and Hills Ideal Balance for our Chocolate Lab. He is full of energy and still acts like a puppy at 16 months - I'm waiting for some calm time from him, fortunately he loves his crate and heads for it to relax.

While I do it in small measures at times, I've heard mixing raw and dried together (in quantities) isn't that good a thing to do and causing some serious problems. Something about the differences in the digestion rates of raw meat and bones vs dried dog food.

I've heard that too. I think that is why Sharon is using re-hydrated dry food. It is served fairly well saturated.

Cosco [Kirkland] lamb veg. rice and/or Natures Domain [Kirkland] salmon, sweet potato. Both first rate dry food blends, and apparently very palatable. Skin, coat, growth and general tone show sustained quality and proper balance. My Boerboels and Rottweilers [both large breeds] stay healthy and vital on 6 to 8 cups per day per dog.
Quality at a competitive price.

Victor is not sold in chain stores. You can find it only in private retail - such as a local COOP or Feed Store.

My ten year old beagle/shepherd mix plays really hard with my 1 y/o yellow lab. It's amazing to me how fast they can both run. I credit some of her energy level to the food. She wasn't that energetic before we switched. The puppy helps too...lol.

That's why I buy it on Amazon and get the free shipping. I think it's Kirkland at Costco I was thinking about. They have one that rates quite good for chain store dog food.

We have two dogs.....Karelian bear dog/lab mix (70lbs) and a cattle dog (60lbs).....both are rescued and eat Blue Buffalo. They both like people food but we try to keep it to a minimum.....peanut butter is a favorite food when giving them a pill.

What do you buy and from where? I was paying between 38 and 42 for 40lbs of Blue Seal dog food. I now pay a couple bucks more for much better dog food that I don't have to pick up.

We have a Great Pyranees and a miniature Daschound . We've been feeding 4 health salmon and sweet potato from TSC. They both seem to like it, but the GP has all kind of skin problems. We switched from the grain feeds to try and combat this, and I guess it has helped, but he still digs himself raw. We've tried giving him the wild Alaska fish oil caps, and fed him canned fish, but nothing seems to help. I'm sure it's food allergies, but can't seem to find the right combination. He seems happy with the present food, but doesn't seem to have much energy, but then I don't think most GPs do. I'm open to all suggestions.

I buy the Beef and Rice mix from a local feed store. The "pro" formula is only a buck or two more - but my dogs don't like it as much.
