Sorry to bust your bubble but that video was not real. That looks like a Microsoft flight sim. The computer animation looks great but there is no way an aircraft of that size can move like that.

Sorry to bust your bubble but that video was not real. That looks like a Microsoft flight sim. The computer animation looks great but there is no way an aircraft of that size can move like that.

My bubble is fine......I don't know if it's real or not....sure looked cool to me. I am not a pilot so I'll leave it to the experts to decide.......still think it's a fun video!

Most of the aerobatics aren't untypical maneuvers...except for the low altitude. However, the takeoff and steep climb was pretty amazing! I'm surprised the aircraft didn't stall.

Pretty impressive. But that 787 has a way to go to match the 707 prototype that one of the test pilots barrel rolled in the 1950s over Paine Field in Seattle.

I was reading, ok skimming through a WSJ article about 787 reliability which is 98% and they want it to be 99%. OOOOk. The article mentioned that the 787 would be at the airshow so I think the video is real. I did not see anything that unusual in its movements other than the takeoff.

Obama was in town a few years ago and I just happened to leave work when a C17 that was part of the presidential trip took off from RDU. That plane went up at a VERY high angle of attack for some distance, then did a VERY tight right turn. I have seen either a L1011 or DC10 doing similar things at RDU over the years. It was a USAF tanker, I assume from Seymour Johnson AFB, practicing landings at RDU. The tanker was flying low and slow with very tight turns. Frankly, far more impressive than the 787 footage.

The first video that was posted appears to be a computer simulation but the other videos appear to be real.
When a large aircraft is lightly loaded (no passengers on board and very little fuel) it can do some amazing things. It does require a high degree of pilot skill to do these maneuvers safely.

Back in the 70's when I was getting my pilots license in San Diego, there was a high school football player who was paralyzed during a game. There were a number of fund raising efforts for him.

One of the events was PSA airlines, now defunct, sold seats on a "scenic" flight over San Diego.

I was practicing touch and go's at Montgomery field. Just as I'm lifting off from one pass, the tower advises me to "caution the 737 making a low pass to your right". I look back and to my right and see this 737 diving at what seemed to be a 45 degree dive right at me and then passing about 500' to my right at a gazillion miles an hour and then climbing back out at that same 45 degree angle.

I'll bet that was an E ride for the passengers!

When I was stationed in Italy back in the late 1980's I had to fly into and out of Rome on an American airline, but to get to/from my final destination I had to fly on Alitalia which is the main Italian airline. I once heard that all Alitalia pilots were ex fighter jocks from the Italian Air Force. After a couple of takeoffs and landing I believed that. I think we did some of the maneuvers shown on this video and a few more. I think we were on either 707's or 737s. Either way there were folks using the airsick bags.

Typical take off there is the pilot stands on the brakes and power jacks the plane, upon release the plane hurtles down the runway until airborne and you climb as steep as you would imagine possible with a passenger jet. Then the pilot cuts the engines and the nose drops over for a level ride. Not sure how close it is to that ascent, but it sure sets you back in your seat.

Bringing back some memories.....I flew out of JW many times.....I remember those take offs.....supposedly the steep climb was a noise reduction idea so the local residents didn't complain as much. Use to fly out of Burbank a lot as well........short runway......had to stop pretty quick if they didn't touch down immediately. Don't fly anymore......tractor is more my speed!:thumbsup:

Nothing beats going into and out of Baghdad International on C17s and C130s. The real fun was when the C130s would drop flares and do evasive manuevers....you could see the ground from the rear criew chief windows, and we were above the flares flying sideways!.....loved those old birds. Aircraft in combat do things you never see here or would imagine!

Once watched a C-141 depart Cubi Point NAS in the Philippines and go vertical... totally out of sight in about 30 seconds. Same thing with U-2's flying out of Osan AB in Osan Korea.

Sure, with on passengers, no baggage, no cargo, and minimum fuel. Since it's probably 150,000 pounds lighter than normal, it has a significant increase in performance.

Fill it up, and none of that is ever going to happen.
