Picked up my first welder today

It's very possible they were US made and Canadian made Idealarcs. Some are round top and some are flat top. Lincoln may have even changed back and forth, who knows? They're all good machines though. It wouldn't surprise me if they started making them in the 50's. As far as I know they all have a thermal cut out if they get too hot but there are people that claim you can burn 3/16" 7018 all day long with them. I wouldn't put that to the test but 5/32" 7018 no problem. About the only thing I've ever heard go wrong with them is the amperage adjustment mechanism. Not a bad idea to blow them out with low pressure air and maybe put some lube on the amperage adjustment. Let the guy know you want it before someone comes along and takes it out from under you.

Oh well, never called me back today either, guess it's gone. If I hadn't wanted to run it first I could have had it.

Keep your eyes open and maybe another one will come along. Even though the price went up, lots of rave reviews for the Everlast PA300. In the mean time, your current machine will be good to practice with. How is your course going?

It's going well, I haven't broken out my little Lincoln in a bit, been busy around the farm, getting ready for haying. I definately need to get some more time on the welder, it is relaxing.

You can get a lot of exercise welding overhead. The real test is being able to keep a steady hand and good weld while sparks and spatter are showering you and occasionally burning through your clothes and into your skin.:D
