It's very possible they were US made and Canadian made Idealarcs. Some are round top and some are flat top. Lincoln may have even changed back and forth, who knows? They're all good machines though. It wouldn't surprise me if they started making them in the 50's. As far as I know they all have a thermal cut out if they get too hot but there are people that claim you can burn 3/16" 7018 all day long with them. I wouldn't put that to the test but 5/32" 7018 no problem. About the only thing I've ever heard go wrong with them is the amperage adjustment mechanism. Not a bad idea to blow them out with low pressure air and maybe put some lube on the amperage adjustment. Let the guy know you want it before someone comes along and takes it out from under you.
