If you want to go free range and still keep the varmits from enjoying your birds, google Chicken Tractors. When they clean up one patch of grass you just roll coop and run to a fresh spot.
i bought 6 guinnies and 11 road island reds today, imnot sure how they got wet but the one that lived was soaked and shivering , i brought her in the house and dryed her off at this time she is ok , im going to keep her inside till i get more. this has me realy upset.
That probably depends on where you live... I lost 5 hens in broad daylight to weasels last year this time... 3 were locked up in the coop. Are there any prey animals that will bother them in the daytime when free ranging?
Here is my temporary "in the house coop" until the chicks get bigger and the outside temps get warmer.
