Buying a new GN trailer: tilt or deckover?

My truck is a 2000. When I bought it those mirrors were installed. Also got the factory mirrors like what's on it now, bought it used. I didn't think I liked the bigger mirrors so took em off at my Son's shop. Not long after someone stole them out of his storage shed. Wish I had em now. To truly see behind me I have to wobble just a bit. I can see if someone is wayyy back, I just can't see them if they are close to me. You'll want em if you tow a lot.

That's good to know. I like the size of these ones, and I've seen them on a few of the older F250s too. They aren't obnoxiously big like some of the new HD truck ones are.

I really like the smaller convex mirror in them to see your blind spots, too.

I absolutely hate a tilt trailer. I only have experience with one but it is always a PITA. My ideal trailer would be a 22' lowboy with dual 7k axles and slide in not fold up ramps. My tractor will be used on it the majority of the time and it can load and unload without the ramps so I don't want to mess with them all the time. I have a lot of experience with deckovers as well and don't mind them but a tandem dually is really more than I need. I don't need the extra width and know how to take care of fenders. If the price was right I would go with a deck over though.

BTW pulling with a 2001 v10 F350 but have had same motor in F250 and a couple different diesels. I think you are on the right track as far as unloaded weight. It could handle a tandem dual, but you will definetly know it is back there even empty.

Yeah, that is one of my bigger considerations in getting a trailer right now. I think that a single wheel tandem axel trailer is going to serve my needs in the here and now. If I get a bigger tractor in the future, and thus need a little more GVWR on the trailer side, I will need to get a little bit of a better pulling truck for that anyway.

That is why I suggested a 2600 to 2900 lb bumper pull trailer, with the gn trailers you are considering you have an extra ton of trailer to start with. My 110tlb with cab, forks and rockbucket is just shy of 9100 lbs and I can tow this with my F250 with no problems. Usually I tow with an F550 for added safety but don't discount a good bumper pull.

I've considered it but not too much. I like the better pull of a GN, and with a 9500 pound tractor and implement, plus a 3K pound bumper pull trailer, that puts me well over the 10K towing capacity on the conventional tow rating.

I have had several trailers over the last 30 years. Started with bumper pull. Switched to gooseneck as my equipment got heavier. There is no way that I would go back to bumper pull.

This is my 14K trailer, 18' steel deck, plus a 4' pop-up dovetail and receiver hitch. I picked it up at the factory in September of 2006.

I am hauling mine right now on a 16 foot bumper pull. Not ideal by any means. Barely under weight limits of axles and had to build a support to set the loader bucket over the tongue. But it pull good and no trouble stopping. As soon as cash allows I will go back to a gooseneck. They pull so much nicer. Plus I need more length for attachments.

At 9.5k + implement, with the weight of a GN, won't u need more than 7k axles?
