I am no expert, but that sounds more like a kidney issue. Potassium is what you need, when you are sweating, etc. It is one of the lost electrolytes, and will be in most things that are to prevent dehydration. Once kidneys begin to work at less than optimum performance, then they don't always get rid of excesses of potassium. The side effect of that can be serious itching. That is how it was with my grandmother, anyway.

Some people have issues because of natural or medication related potassium retention, not a normal problem but if you intake too much then you get into trouble. And yes, kidney function can be a problem.

Not quite as bad as yesterday morning, 82 with index at 88, 77% humidity. Yesterday this time it was around 90 with a heat index of 106. I didn't get squat done yesterday, went to our cruise in last night but it was too hot to be fun. Going to try to transfer a bucket from one tractor to the other today if I can stand the heat.

0845. Already at work. Sun is shining right now, but we had a sharp thunderstorm just before I left the house. 75 with 95% humidity. Forecast high is 90 with 60% chance of rain.

When I pulled out of the driveway and up to the stop sign at my crossroads, there was a big round bale of hay partway in the road. Looked like someone had gone around the corner a little too fast. I saw a Sheriff's Deputy parked at the Chipola River, so I pulled in beside him. It turned out to be my old neighbor from when we lived in town. He went to check on it. If I hadn't been on my way to work.... Well, it might have just disappeared.

Jinman, that was a cake plate. About two thirds as big as a dinner plate. Still a big pepper.

I've gotta get to the garden this morning and start my spraying after the rain. I see a few bugs coming back. All I really need to do today is pick cherry tomatoes and blackeyed peas before spraying, but that's about 1-1/2 hr's work. I better get going. . . it's 75 F already.:)

Back from the garden and it's 83 F out and MUGGY. My wife picked 3/4 gallon of cherry tomatoes and I picked a mess of blackeyes plus squash, cucumbers, and a 8-qt bucket of ripening tomato-sauce tomatoes. I also picked a 6 lb 9.4 oz Israel melon that was fully ripe (golden yellow) and had cracked open due to the heavy rains. I'm glad I found it before the raccoons. I'll cut the parts out around the crack and still have 6 lb of melon to bag for chilling.:) Here are a couple of photos. Oh yes, that's a 10 qt stew pan behind that melon.

Went to a wedding last night, had a good time. One thing I noticed was the life story presentation of the bride and groom. These kids have way more pics of themselves than I ever did, mostly due to digital cameras.

well, I just got back from the garden too, didn't find a melon as impressive as Jim's, but we have some that at least are growing.
By the time I got done hand shoveling one row of potatoes, while my wife plucked them out, her favorite job, I was drenched to my underwear, and
downright dizzy. It wasn't crazy hot either, maybe I just needed to drink more water. I looked at my wife and said honey I'm done, and she was too.
We picked an entire bucket of russet potatoes, which for whatever reason are coming out with a very rough skin. Maybe that's normal and the supermarket stuff is cleaned up in a potato cleaner/buffer, but ours have really thick skins. Fine with me, makes them taste better when they get a little crunchy.

Ok guys and gals, here's an easy one. Are the red peppers cayenne? We have tons of these things coming in, as stated before, really hadn't planned on them, and I'm smart enough with my acid reflux that these babies are going to find a new home.
My concern over hot peppers is when to pick them. These were easy, they got flaming red. Pretty cute actually, look like xmas ornaments...;)

the big red bucket had been full of red potatoes and our favorites, the purple ones. Boy are they interesting looking in potato salad. But we are giving them away as fast as the neighbors can take them. At least potatoes have shelf life, unlike the tomatoes, squash, etc. which tend to overwhelm all of us.

So I figure next week another hundred pounds of potatoes, and that part of the garden will be done.
I just had some home made potato salad for lunch and boy was it good. Even chopped up a little of our own celery in it, which while frankly tough and strong tasting, was really quite good if chopped up and blended in. We cut the last of the celery today and the suburban was filled with the smell of the celery foliage, it's really almost like an herb. Which is why the green stuff will partly go in some chicken/turkey soup.

I'm guessing it's the past heavy rains, but most of our cucumbers were a bust. They got round and fat, not elongated like they are supposed to, and turn yellow quickly, and mushy. Well, it's plenty hot and dry out now, so we'll see how they do from now on. At least we did put some little ones away for the MIL to make pickles with.

and that is the crop report for today. Have a nice Sunday. Drew
