It looks like GM pulled its head out of its butt and made the center stack knobs big enough to operate with gloves on. The past few years that I've looked at GM pickups at the car show the knobs have been tiny with a slick feel to them that make them difficult to use barehanded, never mind doing so with any type of gloves other than what surgeons use.

They did not get a favorable review in USA Today last week. Only positive was the ride. They slammed GM for putting options on finally that others had since 2007 or earlier.

I'm not sure they did enough to hit a homerun. Maybe a deep into left field double, perhaps a triple. It got them on base, but won't score them any runs in other words. In my opinion they've only matched Ford and Ram. Even the Tundra and Titan are going to be greatly improved in the next 2-3 years and will leave the Silverado/Sierra outdated significantly. I don't see GM keeping up with the Jones's every 2-3 years like this market now demands. When you keep a platform basically unchanged for 7-8 years and only CATCH UP to the competition, that's not going to get it done. It'll be good enough to keep loyal GM owners interested, but I can't see owners from other brands leaving their brand for this truck. I've owned 2 GM trucks in my life and I don't see anything that makes me want to go back with this new truck.

Chevrolet truck owners is upset here because Chevrolet does not offer two tone paint. Friend of mine just bought a ford truck because of that. He has been a Chevy truck owner for years.

I think the dash is a big improvement, over the same one in my Suburban which looks like an older Buick Lucerne.
And thank goodness there are a few knobs left along with the video game electronics.
Most importantly the base V8 is both strong and fairly economical.

Detroit's cash cow munches happily again.

No break needed. Read the review. They made mention of several key points that others had as far back as 6-7 years ago and GM is just offering. Read!

This is the third review that basically said the same thing.

I give praise when due. Dodge did what it takes to win over customers and GM just didn't.

My neighbor is all Dodge. They hardly complain even after replacing their 2nd and 3rd transmission... If Dodge starts building trucks with Allison transmissions - I might even walk through the dealer's lot!

I'm a whole lot less about knobs and dials and video screens and just about pullin' 15K-25K up and over mountain passes and not leavin' me sittin' by the side of the road!

They've got 2, 3500 SRW Cummins. '06 and '07. The 2006 is on transmission number 3. The '07 has hardly pulled a trailer. Never hauled beyond 75 miles one-way; OEM tranny as far as I know.

Pulled 8K back from SD last spring with 2 bad injectors and 104F and 30mph headwinds. Not a hiccup the whole trip!

They're finally offering the Aisin which is just as good as the Allison. Toyota owns Aisin and that combined with a Hino is tough to beat. Ram is offering 3 transmission choices with their new HD. Got to hand it to em, at least they aren't trying to force you to buy only one type of setup for your diesel needs.

As a tech at a Ram truck servicing dealer I find that VERY hard to believe. Not calling you a liar or anything like that, but the 48RFE transmissions have been pretty reliable.

The newer 68RFE are very solid as well.

My thoughts exactly! The fuel economy improvements are good, but other than that, they are just catching up to 2010.

They have made improvements in fuel economy but nothing game changing. To achieve those numbers you're going to substantially limit your truck because the gearing is that of a car (my little V6 4x4 Tacoma comes with 3.73's for crying out loud and still gets 20-22 mpg's). I thought they'd improve on the legroom in the crew cab's also, but they still fell short. I've even seen pics of felt...yes, felt....along the inside of the wheel fenders (no more spray on texture that made sense, just needed to be more durable). I have seen this on cars for noise cancellation, but seriously in a truck? How long do you think that's going to stay pretty when you use the truck on a dirt or gravel road most of the time like mine get used? I can understand wanting to make a quiet cabin, but this isn't a family car that you'll be going to Disney World in. I hate to pile on GM but I was seriously going to give them a hard look when this new truck comes out because I wanted to buy my dad a new truck. It'll most likely be his last truck he owns (he's 77) and GM isn't even worth going to look at in person for me with what I've seen (or what I haven't seen). He's a diehard GM guy, always owned Chevrolet but I can just see me trying to help him pick out a truck when he notices soft felt along the wheel liners and begin to cuss and make a crack about it in front of the salesman.

I just think we are going to be back here in 2 years talking about how far behind GM is once again. Some good improvements have been made, but also alot of improvements that needed to be addressed weren't and some questionable moves were made instead.

That's Ok, I wouldn't expect you to believe anything that I've got to say... look at who pays your bills!??!

However, you might also have prior experience with owner's who have given up on running an automatic transmission behind the Cummins engine and switched their trucks over to the 6-speed manual transmission.

Talked with a guy in St. John's, BC at McDonald's one day on a trip down to the lower 48. Black, Dodge dually with a trailer and a 273B Cat skid steer with a snow blade. He gave up on the auto tranny after number 5!!

Repeat failures are usually due to a crappy repair job! Misdiagnosis, failure to eliminate cause of initial problem....
