My 02 Jimmy wears black electrical tape to hide 'check eng.' annoying light that reader can not diagnose.
Soon after replacing the 2 front spindles the ABS also needed the tape treatment.
Other than that great vehicle.

Technically that was an OBDII vehicle so it had the Check Engine light, need a pre-1995 for no Check Engine light. Although, with such a great truck there was probably never a reason for the Check Engine light to come on.

My 93 F150 has a check engine light.

The option is there on some vehicles if you know how to program them. You can drive around all day in my 06 Ram without the seatbelt on and not hear a thing. Another thing I shut off as soon as I got it was the doors locking as soon as I put it in gear. Unnecessary wear on the actuators if you ask me. May be needed in the slums somewhere but not out where I live.

I don't lock the doors 90% of the time when I'm shopping.
It is beyond me why one would want to lock the doors when one is driving down the freeway.

One of the most annoying things that has happened to me was when I borrowed a Ford Expedition a few years ago.
It was a cold, frosty morning.
So, I fired up the engine and turned on the defroster.
Then I hopped out to scrape the windows.
Just as I started scraping, I heard an ominous click.
I found myself locked out of the vehicle in the cold with the engine running.

As far as the "check engine light".
I would think the new vehicles would be smart enough that one could have a built in computer interface that was smart enough to tell you everything that was wrong with the car. Where the part is, and how to get the old piece out and put the new one in. Perhaps tap into the GPS and find the nearest auto parts store, and call ahead and order the part in advance.
90% of the people would still take their vehicle to the dealership for service, but at least it would keep the shops honest.

Anyway, sometimes the check engine lights come on, and then requires being reset for them to go back off after you've performed the necessary maintenance.
Look up the model of your rig, and see what the procedure for resetting the check engine light is.
If it still doesn't go off, get an ODB-II reader, or the appropriate code reader, and try to figure out what the thing is trying to tell you.

My 2011 Silverado is about as bone stock as you will ever find. Other then trailer hitch and snow-plow prep, it has an AM\FM radio. Nothing else except for maybe carpet and cloth seats. Love it, only wish one could get it with a manual tranny, otherwise the auto is nice if I have a drink and DW has to drive.

Most chysler products will tell you the list of service codes on the instrument panel if you turn the key to IGN, and back to off three times. Like that with my 2006 caravan. With my 1993 Dakota, it would flash the check engine light, 5 times, pause 5 times would be code 55. Otherwise with my 2011 Silverado, I keep a CAN enabled Code reader in my tool kit.

Mom had a pickup that had a door open backup alarm that was most annoying.

When hitching a trailer, and I need to move 2", I often like to have the door open and watch the ground, and the pickup then beeps and beeps and beeps.
there are lots of trucks that straight blow the horn if you put it in reverse with the door open and the seatbelt off!
Maybe it was the horn.
I just didn't need to have the pickup honk at me because I was backing up 2" in the middle of a hay field.
And I can judge distance much better by looking at the ground through a cracked door.

I have talked to people who've managed to back a door into a wall or something, and made a big mess. But I think the engineers that come up with these great inventions need to just ride around for a few days with the people actually using the vehicles. And keep in mind that a pickup may have different design needs than a sub-compact car.

Just like the automatic door locks that engaged while I was scraping the car windows (apparently that has been changed on some vehicles). These ideas might be good for some users, but extremely frustrating for others.

You could use 4 low to pull out of the water which you should be doing with a auto too.

Trust me, we do. There is still no way I would try more than 10,000# with a stick.

Still stuck in the 90's...
The RAM's auto transmission as been very good since 03 which is more than can be said for Ford's engine lineup. : laughing:

Burn!
Keep in mind Chris doesn't understand gearing as we've discovered in previous threads.
With the 6.29:1 1st gear, that "de-rated" Cummins could idle that 25k lb boat up any ramp without a sweat.

By the way people, the Cummins was not "de-rated" for the manual tranny. It was though bumped up to 800lb-ft in the auto version to compete with the others. No need to bump up the manual backed engine, no competition...

You have no clue. Step out of this conversation before you make yourself look foolish. No truck of any brand just walks a boat like that up a ramp that I use. Noting is though on a truck then pulling 15,000# plus from the drink. Dead stop, water resistance, wet ramp, 35% grade.
