As far as the "check engine light".
I would think the new vehicles would be smart enough that one could have a built in computer interface that was smart enough to tell you everything that was wrong with the car. Where the part is, and how to get the old piece out and put the new one in. Perhaps tap into the GPS and find the nearest auto parts store, and call ahead and order the part in advance.
90% of the people would still take their vehicle to the dealership for service, but at least it would keep the shops honest.
Anyway, sometimes the check engine lights come on, and then requires being reset for them to go back off after you've performed the necessary maintenance.
Look up the model of your rig, and see what the procedure for resetting the check engine light is.
If it still doesn't go off, get an ODB-II reader, or the appropriate code reader, and try to figure out what the thing is trying to tell you.
