Kioti Air Filter

From my understanding an air filter for the Kioti 41HP engine cost about $55. This seems a bit high for something that cost about $3 to make. A friend of mine buys a car filter from auto parts store for his Yanmar. Has anyone found a similar air filter for Kioti engine at an auto parts store? And does anyone have any objection to use a car air filter if you can find one that matches pretty close? I know I will be replacing one or two every year due to all the dust and sage grass on my property.

Has anyone found a cheaper Kioti air filter online vs. at the dearship?

I believe you can get a second inner filter to the big one. I would try getting the inner filter then just re-use the outer one and clean it out every so often. Then if you damage the outer filter you still won't get dust into the motor.

Did you ever think about using a K&N filter? It's washable and reuseable. My Kioti part number is E7230-11081 and it's made by Donaldson with their part number of P822768 marked on the end of the filter. I checked and believe that your DK40se uses the same filter. This is the one I have for my CK30hst and the cheapest place to purchase that I found. K&N E-4962 Replacement Industrial Air Filter | AJUSA.com

You'll need the recharge oil and cleaner but it still ends up cheaper than the factory filters. I imagine any good grease and dirt cleaner would work in place of their cleaner. There is some down time for cleaning but at this price, you could get two and have no down time. Their site also explains how to clean the filter. Just a thought being that you mentioned the frequency that you'll need to change the filter.

I look at it this way. What is a $55 air filter to a $12,000 diesel engine. Some of you guys may want to cut corners but mine gets replaced with the Donaldson air filter every 100 hours if it needs it or not.

Looks like my post disappeared. If you read your manual, you will see that the filter is meant to be removed daily in dusty conditions and cleaned. It isnt like throw away car filters, it is semi-permanent. You owners manual will or should describe how to remove the outer filter (some tractor have an inner filter and the housing has to be built for inner and outer filter, you cant just put one inside the other one) dump the dust cup, unscrew the wing nut and pull out the outer filter, tap gently on the tractor tire to remove the excess dirt from the pleats. If you have compressed air, blow the dust out by blowing on the outside of the filter, blowing out each pleat, then reinstall being carefull to make sure it is seated properly. The outer filter should last several years if you dont damage the seal or tear the paper or get it wet. You dont need a high dollar K&N filter kit, it already has a cleanable filter designed specifically for the tractor operating conditions meaning dusty conditions and grassy fields. Some higher end tractors will have the same litttle gizmo as your car with the little green/red element that registers restriction, when the filter needs cleaning, the device trips to red. Clean the filter, push the reset button on the end and watch for it to turn red again. Excessive black smoke is a good indication that your filter is really stopped up bad and needs cleaning.

Randy, I sure hope your are cleaning the filter more than every 100 hours. Tractors arent like cars that you replace the filter everytime you change oil. This is a daily thing to do in dusty conditions.

I was told, if you have an air compressor, you should blow the filter from the inside out. Blowing from the outside just embeds the particles deeper in the filter.

I've used it since the Fall of last year. I rechecked the cleaning instructions and being that is made of a non-woven synthetic material, there is no oiling. Just clean, dry, and reinstall. This is the same construction as they use for larger vehicles such as semi trucks. Their cleaning instructions are on their website.
The rubber ends are the same as the original for fit and size. The pleats are not as close together as the original but the filter material is thicker. I put a film of oil on the inside of the filter box, engine air side, to see if any dust gets through and no dust is there. Comparable or better? - The air is clean and the filter can be cleaned and reused. As far as high dollar, one filter and one bottle of cleaner, enough for several times, is the same as a factory filter. If you needed more cleaner, something like Simple Green would work.

I like the KN spray oil as it catches small particles.. I use it on other filters too..There is a hand pump oil available from Graingers too for air filters..By chance would you have a cross for a Kubota air filter...TOO70-16323?? THX.

How are they different?

Diesel engines have no throttle so air is sucked into the cylinders unrestricted. There is practically zero manifold vacuum; diesels run very lean (excess air) compared to gas engines.

Bottom line is diesels pump lots of air into the cylinders and you don't want lots of dirt going in along with it.

I looked via your Kubota number for a cross and can't find it. My Kioti part number is different than the Donaldson, manufacturer of the filter, number on the filter. Is there any other number on the filter itself?

K&N doesn't list Kioti but lists the cross by the Donaldson manufacturer number of the filter which is on the end of the filter. This is different than the part number Kioti uses for the part.
