Obed, While I understand where you are coming from, I will present another angle on this. The purpose of building pallets with sides is not to save time, but to save time in the long run. Anything you do like this will cost you time up front, but will improve handling and productivity in the long run, which is why you do it. And with that said, it is best to do it right so they last. I doubt the sapling thing you were trying to do would hold up for long, even sight unseen. Now if you can get more of those free box pallets, that is a deal you can't beat. They look pretty good.

I have also seen people use metal mesh pallet cubes that are designed to hold sack of materials or other stuff for this. If you can find them reasonably they are great for drying airflow and very durable.
Hmm... You've got me thinking about firewood handling now too. I burn about 3 cords a year so its not an insignificant amount of time to process it and move it into the woodstove from the forest. Loading it all on pallets the moment its split does have its advantages I think. Hmmmm...

Tom,
Can you find out what those containers are normally used for and where your co-worker gets them?

I see these crates with people who work with large liquids. Look for someone who sells 50 gallon drums and they should have these.

They hold either 275 gallon or 330 gallons of XXXX

Saturday morning I woke up and wondered, "What should I wear today?" I went to my closet and carefully inspected my wardrobe. Making certain that you look good while you are working by yourself in the woods is of dire importance. Knowing this truth, I had a difficult time choosing my garments.

Should I prefer the Chartreuse shirt with the obtuse swirls today? How about the dashing beige shirt? Or perhaps the striking grey pinstripes? Then my eyes fixated on the perfect selection. There it was, the BLUE shirt. My face beamed with excitement. I thought, "Man, I look gooood in blue!" So the blue shirt it was. Once I had finally arrived at a decision on my tunic, picking the pants was easy. Of course! I'll wear the GREY pants because they compliment so well the BLUE shirt.

After I donned my apparrel, I strutted in front of the full length mirror like a male peacock parades in front of his potential mate. "Now I'm ready to go out and work by myself in the woods. It's too bad nobody will be able to see me out there because I really am the bomb!"

Those are the things I was talking about. Seen 'em but no clue where to get them myself...

Obed,
Nice duds!:)
I want to suggest you seriously consider chainsaw chaps for Christmas; Stihl makes some Pro chaps and you could put them on your list.

Also consider a second bar for your saw. Your fashion pic shows wear where the paint is worn off, and the bar could be pinched, or bent slightly, restricting the chain from running freely along the length of the bar.

Obed, you are not alone..Some of us have uniforms...in the cool weather you can always find me in jeans and a Navy Blue Sweatshirt, If it is summer, then it will be jeans and a T shirt or short sleeve polo shirt...In the South the relaxed formal uniform is Khaki pants and a light blue Oxford long sleeved shirt, If more formal then add a Navy Blue Blazer with brass buttons...and a tie...usually red with navy blue dots.

Steve Jobs always wore a black turtle neck ( he bought 100 of them ..he had them made for him ) and he wore Jeans...everyday , everywhere that was his uniform..I am sure he had more than one pair of jeans and one black turtleneck...No you are not alone...just like the rest of us who are not **** about clothes.:thumbsup:

Pain faling off can be from regular wear or overheating. Flip your bar over to wear the other side evenly.

Are you saying im ****. You obviously know why Jobs wore the same thing, i had no idea. I did notice the t-neck but did not realize it. My point is if you constantly see someone or pics right in front of you you notice things. If a co worker of yours (assuming you dont wear like shop blue uniforms at your work) wore the same thing everyday you would notice he that guy always wears taht same shirt/pants.

I too have pics in the same chlothes, I almost always have jeans on too, there different colors now as i buy whats on sale and not just Levis light blue anymore. But i will usually have a different t shirt on as i own bunches of them and grab the first on the pile. In winter im more likely to bee seen in the same thing as i have an old quilted flanel i wear if getting oily/greasy or working but i have at least 6 sweatshirts and a few jackets and pull overs, chances of you seeing me in the same thing not that high. I dont plan it this way. I may wear pull over B one week till i leave it somewhere and cant find it then will pick up C, then may find B and then Grab A as i wash the others.

This sounds fashon police like im sure but MY WHOLE POINT IS if i take 3 random pics of myself the chances that i will be in the same thing is almost nill. This is the only reason i joking brought it up.

Here are some random pics i pulled off my work PC at random, first ones i came across where im not in hunting camaflage as it will all look the same and i dont own that may pairs of that.

These were the first 4 i came across. The first i am on the right in the truck. All others i am the only one in the pic. See i wear jeans pretty much all the time too, but even in cool weather i seem to have a different jacket/sweatshirt on. Im not nocking those that wear the same pair of chlothes or have a whole closet of them i just thought it strange and know more of you noticed this not just me.

HAHA i did it my self. After looking at them after picking them i am in the same thing on the left and right pic and i think that is the same camo sweatshirt under on the left as in pic three.

clemsonfor...> " Are you saying im **** "

No...I'm not saying you are **** about your wardrobe...:) I am just saying I find it easier to just wear what I am comfortable in when working around the farm and like Obed pointed out...by myself..no one else around anyway and even if they were it would not matter...and to set the record straight I do not wear the same pair of jeans or navy blue sweatshirt everyday...I have at least a dozen of each...My Mrs. would never allow me to do that even if I wanted to.

Did you ever watch the TV series .."' Monk "' ? He wore the same suits and shirts everyday but he had dozens of them...all the same and the shirts even had to have been inspected by the same shirt inspector at the factory....I am not that bad...but close.. and as your pictures show and you point out you are treading close to having a uniform as well...by the way ..take me fishing next time you go...nice catch...

Gutter Cleaning Time Again

Thus, I went to Lowe's to buy a ladder stabilizer. Unfortunately, the stabilizer sold by Lowe's only stands the ladder 10" off the wall. Our eaves are 24" plus the gutter depth so I had to go online and order a Louisville Ladder stabilizer that has a 24" stand-off. However, the stabilizer would not be delivered in time for the weekend so the circus act returned to our house this weekend.

.

You put the stabilizer legs on the roof. That way you can use the standard ten inch version. Also, the ladder can't slide sideways (even with the legs on a pile of wood!).

Why is it I have the feeling you have a closet full of blue shirts and grey pants?

The ladder stabilizer finally arrived today. I guess I have no excuse now and will have to clean out the remaining 2 story gutter at the back of the house.
