Anyone see that Discovery Channel series "Gold Rush Alaska"? Looks like they'll be late getting home! :confused2: ...

Tsk! Tsk! Such a sad commentary on the state of America's infrastructure. A shame none of our politicians had visited that bridge before so that it would have at least been repainted.

We'd be quite happy if America would pay for having Canadian infrastructure painted... :D

Hit it at about 50 mph.

From:
Traffic now moving at overpass

"Const. Inman said the driver of the transport, who thought he had clearance, was travelling 80 kilometres per hour at the time of the crash. "

Believe it or not, bridges aren't really bolted down, mostly just gravity hold them in place, or not in this case.

I think a little heat on the boom of that JD will straighten it out and let it go back to work.

Doubt the result would be the same in California since nearly every bridge has been upgraded to meet seismic standards.

Actually the chains didn't hold. You can see in the third pic it slid back to the hump over the wheels and even took out the first set of duals. It was just wedged between the bridge and the trailer. Mighty tough boom though.

Wow! Just happy it was not me driving that truck. That would be some hard explaining.

The bridge clearance was 5.1 meters (16.73 feet). You'd think that would be plenty. I can think of lots of bridges around here that aren't nearly that tall.:confused3:

That trailer looked plenty big enough for the machine, maybe they didn't stow the boom properly down all the way????

You Canadians can't claim to be the only ones with "special" truck drivers. We have accomplished drivers too!

I am thinking that there were skid marks on the road and the drivers seat.

For the first one, I dont see any skid marks on the road. I wouldn't want to be the next person to drive that truck though unless it gets a new seat.

With the mess our books are in, what makes you think we haven't already? Remember Fort Montgomery? I bet we are still paying rent on that land through some obscure policy agreement not looked at in 75 years.

Should make Eddie Walker feel better about his.

Can anybody tell what size excavator it is? A 30 metric ton machine would weigh in the 75,000 pound range.

98 ercent of any overhead accident in a hauled excavator was from loding it face forward. Usually with the bucket sitting flat. The correct way is to face the house rearward, and knuckle the boon under. Even if you leave the boom sitting flat face it rearward and it wont snag as much.
