John Deere 4720
I am starting to look at purchasing a MY2011 4720 Cab CUT. I am trying to decide between purchasing the 4th & 5th Electrohydraulic SCV Kit which adds two toggle switches on the right control panel in the cab & adds two sets of rear hydraulic connections or the Electronic Diverter kit with a switch on the dash that diverts the mid mount hydraulic ports to two ports at the rear of the tractor and is controlled by the joystick. I am looking for any information on the benefits and drawbacks to each system. Thanks for the help as I do not know which direction to go.

Welcome to TBN:D

The new EHV (electro-hydraulic valves) are new this year, so there is very little info on them. One thing that bothers me a little about them is that they are ON or OFF, so you can't "feather" the control. This may or may not be a problem...only time will tell.

The 4th and 5th "diverter" is just that, it "diverts" the flow from the mid-SCV's (joystick) for the loader to the rear, so you either have FEL control OR rear remotes, both are switched at the same time.

With the cab tractors there is very little room to do a custom setup like adding your own valves like many have done with OS tractors.

If I had to make the choice today, I think I would opt for the EHV setup and not the diverter, just my:2cents:

My $0.02: I love the diverter for my main rear use a six way blade. The joystick control is intuitive and makes it real easy to control the blade in motion.

The electric valves as Kenny said are new from Deere. I have one I plumbed for my 4in1 bucket. The on-off isn't that bad. If you need to slow things down you can get a restricting orfice, or a needle valve. I think the electric valve would work great for things like roading tires on a disc or spray booms. Not so great on things that you want fine control over. What is your use going to be?

I wrestled with this question for quite some time, myself... I've got the diverter setup on my JD110 TLB and it has worked without fail! Only problems have been "operator related"!

I did not want the "on/off" situation as I needed to measure the amount of cylinder extension with a rear blade and a disc mower. Full extension or no extension would not serve my purposes - at all.

The hyd options on the 4000 series was one more reason for moving up to the 5000 series in my case.

At this juncture - if I were buying a new 4000 machine and needed additional hyd funtionality - I'd likely go with a diverter setup; given the ability to "fine tune" the cylinder's.

AKfish

Of course, you could always go with BOTH - the 3rd SCV would be EH and 4th and 5th could be diverter.

I have the diverter, and it's plumbed into a TnT. For this (or if your primary use will be to control something intuitive to a joystick such as a hydraulic blade) I would strongly recommend a diverter. For almost any other use (even HTL only) I would much prefer the individual remotes.

Thanks very much for the replies. The tractor will be used initially to selectively clear just under 7 acres of forest. I am planning on using the 4th & 5th to mainly operate the top & tilt for grading in the immediate future. In the distant future, I will be doing more ground engaging activities and light hay work. The tractor will have the third Electrohydraulic SCV operated by a button on the joy stick. I will use this to mainly operate a brush grapple.

Thanks for the heads up that the EHV's are only an on/off operation. I was not sure if they were. I was concerned how difficult the toggle setup would be to constantly adjust a blade. Now I am concerned about the inability to feather the controls when blading.

This optioning out a tractor is way harder than I thought it would be. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I agree with the others that being able to use the joystick to feather the cylinders is a good way to go. On my 4520 cab tractor I use the joystick to operate the top and tilt functions and the rear remote to operate scarifiers and wheel running gear.

The best setup Deere offers for the compacts is on the 110tlb, this is a triple diverter setup and all controlled by the joystick.

If it were me I would go with the diverter and joystick control for the top n tilt and the electric hydraulic controlled valve for the simpler functions.
Three sets of couplers is easy but for a rear blade with hydraullic offset you need four sets, and this is harder to achieve.

One item from discussion and some PM's to review: While the Electric Valve is off-on the cylinders don't slam open-closed. By careful use of the switch, you can position the attachment. What you can't do is vary the time required to go from closed to open. If you use a restriction device, that limits the time, even if you don't want it to.

I have the joystick control and the 4th and fifth on the 4720 cab tractor I just got and I like the set up quite a bit. One question I have had is for releasing the pressure on the thumb control for hooking up the hoses. That has been a hassle-two person job to see what I am doing wrong.
Might have to read the owners manual!

Should be a little "T" handle relief valve you unscrew on the ehv
