The 1950 F1 retailed for approximately $1,200.

I just checked. In 1950 the average income was $1,540 per year so things have not changed.

Nice truck though.

Kinda makes you wonder if 60 years from now, someone will have restored/maintained my truck to that same degree. Not that all 1950 trucks are still around either, but it makes one think.

My dad in law worked at Fisher Body for GM from about 1952 thru 1985, he says that today's cars and trucks have sheet metal about half the thickness of what they used as recently as 1965. Of course, they do a lot better at factory rust proofing and paint today than they used to, which may offset the thinner sheet metal. Another factor is where the truck is driven, if in the Rust Belt or near salt water that will shorten the lifespan. But to be honest, I doubt if 60 years from now, there will even be gasoline to fuel your truck. And if there is, you will not be able to afford it, anyway. The pickup shown is the same birth year as me, I really wonder what kind of a history it has, was it driven for 60 years, stored for 40, whatever. Lots of variables. But you do raise an interesting question...

I have always wanted an F1 to restore and use during the summer to go to customers farms to check on things and pick up simple supplies. Sure would be fun putting around town in one of those old trucks :D

After the novelty wears off lets hear again.:D

Old trucks are something that intrigue me. It would never be a daily driver. Just a fun truck for those nice days when I actually have free time. Toss the pup in the back and go check fields :)

Sure, I don't NEED my F350 4x4 Crew Cab 8' bed. But it sure is cool. I don't even try to justify it, unless I'm actually doing something at the moment where it's handy.
I also don't NEED my BX tractor or various attachments.
I also don't NEED my house, on a few acres.
I also don't NEED my welder, press, drill press, table saw, etc.

We all spend money on some things that others think are silly.
Some people own boats. To me, they're a money pit - but to others, owning a boat is important. I don't begrudge them that.
Just don't spend money on luxury A and then complain you don't have money for luxury B.

Sure, there are times when one is in a life situation where there is no such thing as a luxury - unless you smoke, drink, or spend money on any other mundane thing that isn't necessary.

If you want to boil it down to it's purest form, the only NEEDS a person has is; air, water, and food. Everything else is a WANT.

Some more pics of a workin truck. Comparing ancient trucks (many of which I have worked with in the real world) is worthrless...terrible suspensions, AM radio sort of in one sort of one speaker. Vinyl seats designed to slide off of, whiny trannies so you can't even have a convo, smell like gas through the firewall, easy to flood if you don't know it's particular idiosyncracies, 6-8 mpg with any kind of load, completely imprecise steering...actually gives steering its meaning,...oh did you order the "optional" heater, sorry no airconditioner, no XM, no EPS, no cruise control, no FM, no nice minimal four speakers. Rattly doors you have to totally slam to get to shut, and none of those rascally safety features like seat belts...heavens no, and a very large cigarette ash tray for those cancer sticks.....yep, only 1,200 X10 = 12,000$ for all that...yes you would be beating down the door for one of those. And I hate to tell you if you believe that Consumer Index your just plain naive...they eliminate food, fuel, and a whole host of other things before they figure that rate....real helpful. Oh...and what do you mean by radial tires? E rated....are you kidding?

I was talking to a buddy the other day after getting my truck and trailer weighed, he told me I was the first person he knew, that actually needed an F450.:)
