All this talk and hype,... I want to see real life. I can honestly say ill never own another ford. ever. I dont care if it was so efficient the gas tank refilled itself as i drove ;) aint happening.

I think we should take our truck buying advice from warzones.. What do you see? Thats right Landcrusers and Hilux :D Look no further than Libya. When is the last time you saw AA artillery on the back of a F150? That second picture of the LC makes me all tingly in my no-no parts :D. If that was on the Toyota lot new with a crew cab and diesel (minus the machine gun for liability purposes :D) id be all over that.

Now if i can only convince Toyota to bring the Hilux and Plain Jane LC's back to North America :D I mean you can walk onto a lot in Australia and pick up a LC 70 with cab and chassis. complete with manual trans and diesel.... A true work truck not the doctor / soccer mom profit centres you see here

ha! $45k is just for a HALF TON truck. i looked a Dodge Cummins Lariat 4x4 the other day and it was $53k....didn't have navigation, sunroof, etc. Looked at ever single GM 3/4 on the lot of another dealer, they ranged from $55-60k...didn't have navigation, dvd player, or sunroofs either. oh, and all these trucks had 3:73 gears in them, no 4:10's. Took a look at a 6.7 Lariat F-250 awhile back....$55k.

The reality of it is the Dodge dealer was willing to come off $9k on their truck...sounds good but remember that the truck is $53k to begin with, GM and Ford wouldn't budge pass $4,500 and then they acted like they were GIVING the truck away.

They're all overpriced in my opinion.

I agree with you there 100%...prices on new trucks today is INANE and I don't know how anybody can afford them, even the $30 an hour GM workers using their discount. I'm just gonna drive my Y2K GMC until it falls apart...odds are it will outlast me.

Finally someone built a flexible unit.
Explain to me how exactly the turbo V6 is "flexible". It gets the same 20 mpg highway as the V8's yet will cost more to maintain and fix, won't tow as well, and will get half the fuel mileage loaded as a comparable V8. It's nothing more than hype to sell to the grocery getters and the guys that need a truck to go to Home Depot for some light bulbs and a gallon of paint.

Here's the real story about your wonderful V8 beating turbo V6.

So... the 3.5 makes more hp and more torque than the 5.0, you just have to shift a little slower. :) The 5.0 torque rise starts flattening out at about 1500 rpms while the 3.5 keeps on rising fairly straight till right at 3000. After the torque lines cross at 2700, they never meet again.

It's no diesel, but I bet it's better than the 4.6 Triton in my '06.

Scooby... if I ever need a truck to haul an AA gun, I'll buy a Toyota, but until then....

Any old timers remember pickup trucks in the late 50's- early 60's? Cheap, cheap, CHEAP! Three on the tree and wind-up windows. Options were a radio- and a heater. . .

I don't remember them... I wasn't even thought of then. I wonder what their tow rating was? I bet you didn't see half ton trucks with 10K tow ratings though. I wonder what the torque curve of a dodge 318 is? :)

My 03 F350 4x4 dually crew is paid for...
With 93K miles and the 7.3 I'm in no hurry to trade...
14 mpg empty and 10-11 mpg towing...
Running an 80 HP program so she is putting out 330 HP and 625 lb-ft of torque...
Aggravating to park but has been very reliable...
Very safe too...

Poly 318 or LA 318?

The 318 was a great engine. Longevity, mpg, and decent power. I found the 318 and 360 pulled very well.

I used a 64 F100 for two years hauling drywall supplies. No trailer, but a lot of bed weight. That 292 Y-block pulled nice. And, is stock form got great mileage.

I used my Dad's Chevy a few times for the same job; did not haul as well, and that 350 got horrid fuel mileage.

FWIW, most folks we knew, towed with a car, or station wagon... Ford Country Squire 9 passenger with a 428; or Dodge Coronet wagon with a 413 or 440. Didn't used to see many crew cabs, and no extra cabs. If the family took the Airstream out, those sedans or wagons hauled family and trailer.
