Kubota ZG 22, John Deere 4200 4wd/ 420 loader, 4 wd,08 polaris 700 ranger crew
Hello everyone. New to the forum. Ive been around large farm tractors all of my life. But I dont know a whole lot about subcompact or compact tractors at all. I have 16 acres at my residence of mostly woods and five acres of yard that is mowed with my ZG 20, a rental property with 4 acres, a small family cemetary, and my mothers place of about a acre. I have been cleaning up my place where I live with a 580 sk backhoe. So the tractor will just be used mostly for bushhogging, moving dirt around, disking/tilling/planting food plots and the small maintence jobs of just having property. The ZG will take care of the mowing. Also will the BX 25 dump high enough for the bumper pull dump trailers for loading them. I have access to a 14' with 3' sides that is a low pro trailer. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Also already have a tandem axle 12' trailer to haul it on. Thanks, Lutt.

It sounds like just what you need. The 3 ft trailer sides are no problem to the loader. Just don't expect anything close to the CK580's lifting power! :)

Should have no problem reaching over the sides of the dump trailer. I've used my 2350 to load a one ton dump truck. As for the hoe, the bota will out dig that case any day!!!! Jk

Yeah, that old backhoe is stout. Also ease of hauling was something else I was looking at. Thanks Lutt

Thats good to know, I am sure a one ton dump truck sides are quite a bit taller that a 3' dump trailer. Thanks Lutt.

One thing to understand is the ground clearance on the BX series. Some folks have found it to be a bit too low for effective operation in the woods.

I have had a BX2200 for almost 11 years and use it on my 5 acres. The Woods bh makes my rig equivalent to a BX25 in overall capacity.

In my own opinion, you can do everything you desire with a BX25, but you will spend an incredible amount of time doing it. If you are retired and love seat time, this tractor is right for you. If you have a job and want to take care of all these chores yourself, you definitely need at least a B, or better yet an L series to do all that and still have time for a life.

I currently have a BX25, have had other BX's, B's and an L. Joining Tom on this one. Bushhogging and disking are not commonly done with a BX. The BX25 will be up to the other jobs with time but those two aren't where it shines.

Thanks JOHNTHOMAS and Tom, I am not retired, just 38:laughing:, but I work a 30 day on, 30 day off scheldule. The bushogging would be light.
As would the disking. But I hate to get something home and be to light. It took almost 2 years on which ZTR to go with and I made the right choice because of the smaller ZG 20 will mow in between the tombstones. I was thing of ease of getting the BX 25 around and hauling also. But, maybe I will need to step up to a larger framed tractor. Thanks Lutt.

Sound like a great idea. Just remember to buy an aftermarket skid plate for the HST fan. This will save you time, money and quite a bit of frustration.

Best of luck!

So hard to tell, because folks find themselves doing jobs that push the limits of a BX. These tractors are a big investment and doing some "test driving" is recommended. My 2 cents would also be the bigger B series or small L series.

I found my BX's low ground clearance to be a severe handicap in our market gardening operation. It bottomed out while plowing and digging potatoes. It was also too low to ride over plants to cultivate. Everyone's tasks are different.

It is tough using the same tractor as an effective, nimble lawn mowing machine, while still being big enough to handle the rougher stuff.

As others have mentioned, the BX series has the vulnerable, plastic transmission fan (expensive to replace) and would need to be shielded with under body armor.

With having access to the Case backhoe, do you need the backhoe that comes with the BX25? If not, I would put the money saved towards a larger B series for your bush hogging and cultivation work, particularly since you don't need to mow with it. If a BH is needed with the SCUT/CUT size tractor, then budget might be an issue as any of the B series with the added Kubota BH will cost several thousand more than a BX25.

I would look into a B series. If you are not mowing with it which is mainly what the BX excels at then I would really look into a B series machine for what your doing.

you have too many lots to contend with. The BX is ideal for transporting between lots, but the B is only couple hundred lbs more. IF you intend to bush hog and do lots of loader work, I'd step up to B or L. The B seems much better suited for you. the BX is a great overall machine for a few projects here and there on 5 acres. 10 is doable, no problem. but 16 acres plus other lots? I'd say you might be disappointed with BX since you are used to larger machines.

Thanks guys for the above post. You guys have been very helpful.:thumbsup:I think when I get home this time I will look into a B sized tractor. I was afraid that the BX 25 would be a little stretched. But I have done alot of research on here on it and also went to the local dealer and checked it out. What ever I decide on it will sure be a Kubota, Ive got almost 400 hrs of hard mowing on my ZG 20 and not done anything but grease, change oil, sharpin/change blades and keep it clean. 0 problems. Thats pretty good for a mowing machine imo, Thanks again guys Lutt

That would be my choice; my preference are the B2630 and B3030.

Yeah, u know when you kinda have a gut feeling about something, but your brain and common sense tells better, thats the way Ive thought about the BX!
