This observation is a mite late but I think the purple doesn't make a sound.

I had my cat sit near me and tried all the sounds, they all made him turn except the purple.

four tests same results and I trust the cat's ears more than I trust mine.

I could hear it.

My wife & kids all heard the purple one. I didn't.

As someone suggested, it is speaker dependent. I cannot hear anything but the clicks at the start and end of the tone on my computer's built in speakers but do hear it quite well when I plug in non isolating headphones into the computer (and put them on my head), even with the TV surround sound system on fairly loud. It is a pretty high pitched clean tone. Not in the range most of would miss being able to hear...

I'l add to this list. I've had loud ringing in both for about a month now with very sensative hearing 24/7 ,antibiotics and anti-inflamitories have done nothing,Had some massage stuff done today with no effect and waiting for a specialist next week now ?
Only relief i ever find is in a running shower..??????????

How ironic that this post is active again, as my ringing became worse today. The cause is excessive ear wax. It seems as the more the ears get plugged up blocking outside sound, the internal ringing is amplified.

Right now I'm using over the counter Debrox and an ear syringe filled with water as hot as I can stand it to blast the crud out as that has worked in the past.

Came across this today, sounds like too much of a hard sell to be real to me.

Has anyone here tried this? My ringing is loud and clear this AM. :(

You young guys that aren't wearing hearing protection or even listen to loud music/chainsaw/gas trimmer or blower/etc need to start now. I'm 68 years old and had normal hearing till 'the early '70's. This ain't fun.
I wear earplugs or my "Howard Light Thunder 29" hearmuffs (with small earphones in the earmuff hooked to an ipod) ANY time I am running any outdoor power equipment, a saw or a grinder. I tell my wife that I do it so that when we are old and decrepit I will be able to hear what she says when she whispers sweet nothings into my ear :D

I went to the site and was able to hear all of their test sounds (which I sort of expected), I do sound reinforcement (running the sound for a chior) as a hobby and I can hear when a room is getting ready to feedback before most others can.

Interesting thread...

I was USAF 1963-1967, Strategic Air Command where Gen Curtis "Nuke'em" LeMAY had us soldiering a lot harder than the rest of the "boy scouts in bus driver clothes." I got significant firing range time and never saw a set of muffs in use the whole time I was in from basic till discharge.

One day after shooting my hearing was "funny", everything sounded like I had soup cans up near my ears giving everything a tinny fuzzy echo kind of nature. Over the week it got better and later my hearing was tested and found pretty good up to 21,500 Hz in one ear and about 20,000 in the other. I kid you not, I could here the bat's SONAR as they echo located prey. I could hear the ultrasound (SONAR) controlled traffic signals. Ultrasonic alarms in stores sounded like steam whistles going off in my ear.

My hearing rapidly deteriorated. According to the medicos it was only a matter of time due to previous excessive noise exposure. I have tinitus AND hearing loss, mostly in the high freqs. I got hearing aids a couple years ago and don't wear them much. They do help with the high freqs as they are selectively boosting the highs. Unfortunately you can't wear muffs with them on as they go into howling oscillation so I can't wear them in the shop because I wear protectors when running noisy machines. I can't wear them to shoot for same reason. I keep promising myself I will try to wear them more but I am not very dependable regarding that intention.

Pat Sorry? PAT... huh? PAT!!! Oh, OK

WOW ! I can't believe all these people have this ringing in their ears ! I thought I was the only one. I went to several docs years ago. They all said just have to live with it. Maybe some day there will be a cure ( I hope)
My Doctor told me there may be a cure in about 10 years for hearing loss... The cure will involve stem cells....

Well, looks like I am in good company.

I'm the SUCKER who bought the Quietus. You actually get 3 bottles of 60 tablets that you chew or dissolve in your mouth as well as ear drops that you put about 3 in each ear.

So far I haven't noticed it helping. It has been interesting to read comments about various over the counter things like Aleve which I have been taking for congestion. The ringing has been even more pronounced lately.

Anyway, back to Quietus. I was suprised about the hard sell. They try to sell more than just the Ear silencing stuff. They have some other product just as costly that is supposed to help hearing. When I said no, just the stuff you advertise the salesman appreciated that but really said the two work together. After a couple more NO's! he mentioned he could appreciate I was frugal and wanted to sell me something that had nothing to do with hearing, I have completely forgot what it was, life insurance, sewing needles, I forgot.

I should have just dropped it all there and hung up. I have it and will try a bit more but I'm not hopeful. I do intend to send it all back for a full refund right? Probably not. I bet shipping and handling, restocking, credit card refund fee etc will cost close to what the stuff cost. I think it was about $159. Shipping can be expedited for another $xx amount but hey, I've had this so long I did not want to do that. I was quoted 3 weeks. Got it in one week anyway.

I do have some info that again I had to pay for, its pretty interesting. I think I paid $38 for it. I suppose that I am not suppose to share it. Its 36 pages in pdf format. Title is "Bannish Tinnitus" by Paul Carrington RaT....

PS, I am going to chew on a tablet right now... there, you witnessed it. Little white tablet about 1/4 the size of an aspirin.

Taking Magnesium tablets is supposed to help reduce the volume of the ringing. You have to take it daily for a couple of months to see a difference.

I can say that Sudaphed (the original pseudophedrine) definitely helps with the ringing. Take two 30mg tablets and see if it works for you.

I'm reviving an old thread here but this may be some comfort to tinitus sufferers..

I'm not convinced tinitus is incurable.

I do believe there is a degree of 'self healing' possible as long as you ALWAYS protect your ears even if you already have tinitus. Never say to yourself that its 'too late' to start worrying about ear protection. Mine was driving me almost crazy when it first became rather serious 2 or 3 years ago. But I have religiously protected my ears ever since and i think its significantly lessened and become much more bearable. In fact I often don't notice it at all even in quiet periods like watching TV.

Nowadays I wear lightweight headband style earmuffs every time I make any annoying noise, such as running a drill or banging a nail, and of course when running any sort of engine. I think that our ears can heal themselves, to some degree at least, if we give them a chance.

Another thing. I don't smoke much but when i do have an occasional ciggy with a beer I notice the tinitus increases almost instantly. Another good reason to give up completely.

I have tinnitus too. I think you can get, somewhat, desensitized to it also.

We have a district in a suburb near here, where you could actually do that.
