John Deere and Yanmar

It seems I may have found the answer to my own question....According to the website "tractorco.com", John Deere and Yanmar have parted ways. If you want to read it for yourself, go to their website and scroll down to where it says "Yanmar and Mitsubishi" If this is true, is JD going to produce their own Powertec engines for the under 40hp class tractors???

This separation has been in the works for a number of years. Don't think Yanmar teamed up with Cub until after the separation began. I do wonder how far reaching this separation is. Several JD models use Tuff-Torque transmissions and TT is owned by Yanmar.
Wonder who will be replacing Yanmar as a supplier?

If true . . . it makes more sense that Deere would team up with Cat. This way they would be able to push made in the USA.

That can't happen, Cat and Agco are already in bed together. Although I have seen stranger things happen.

- Many over the years, + '05 JD-4410 TLB, but quite proud of my big green "Rolls": AKA: 2006 JD-3520 Cab, HST, Tunes & 2-way tiltmeter, Cobra communications and 6" (x2) rear wheel spacers for a lot less pucker-factor!!

My guess is JD will make their own engine. Already make numerous other diesels for ag tractors and power units. Shouldn't be hard to make their own. Yanmar did make good engines.

IMO from what I've heard...nothing will be changing between Yanmar & Deere.. this is one of them topics that seems to come up every few months...
From a realistic "common sense" standpoint Yanmar sells WAYY to many engines to Deere for them to want to part ways.... I bet Deere does more business with Yanmar in JUST ENGINES for its various pieces of equipment then the entire CubCadet/Yanmar alliance will do in 5 years. Add to that Deere also contracts out the entire build of certian model tractors to Yanmar.... Its in Yanmar's best interest to keep a MAJOR customer happy.
I would think the only thing you'll see (or not see) is a direct crossover of a Deere product to a CubCadet/Yanmar product. In other words, you wont be able to find a "Yellow & Black" version of the 790 or 2320, etc...

tym's are using caterpillar engines which are in fact perkins engines rebadged. the cat mechanic that comes to our shop to commision the cats refers to them as perkapillars.

Actually that is a bit closer than you think. The EX2900/3200 machines are basically updated 790s. They may not be gear machines, but you can even see where the gear shift used to be. Other than the HST setup, the layout of the EX2900/3200 is the same as the 790/3005.
I was over in the eastern part of town today and saw a JD dealer that has been in southeastern ohio forever. I asked him the yanmar question. He said that JD has been getting alot of questions reguarding this topic. He was told that all questions will be answered at there fall meetings with the dealers. He was also told that JD has a big anouncement planned for November. As to what, he didn't know. Thanks Tug for the welcome. I'll say this. If JD does come out with an American made 3000 series tractor, I'll be trading in my trusty 4210 the next day.
If I had a need for a tractor smaller than the 4000 series that I currently own, I would also want a North-American engine. The one in my 4120 has been bulletproof in (4) years of hard use. If this pans out, then, good-riddence to them little rice-burners. Given the choice I will always support my closest nieghbors first. It really bothers me that Ford and Chevy dont make mini-vans anymore and my wife just ran out and bought a Toyota today.
First of all it's not who makes the engine it's the tolerances the manufacturer demands from the supplier. The engine that you get in your 3000 series is not the same engine Cub gets. JD tolerances are much tighter, that's why their engines run forever. If they go to another supplier or make the engines themselves they will get the same tolerances and you'll get the same tractor. Get it?
Now, with that said, a company can slacken their tolerances and the quality of their parts. Toyota did this, that's why their cars aren't as good as they used to be. Don't believe me? Take a look at the Camry (made in the US, by the way) it's not the same car and the failure rates are going up.
Stop looking where things are made, look how they are made. JD tractors are made very well. Kubota gives you tires with tolerances so bad the bucket is an inch or two lower on one side. Don't believe me? Go measure your tires. By the way the worse thing you can do on a 4WD vehicle is sloppy tire sizing. It creates tranny stress problems from different rolling radius tires. Check your JD tires, they are right on the money. That gives you an idea about the rest of the machine. That's why I own Deere!
