Not For Sale In Ca.

Just got a copy of the new Northern Tool catalog and it seems that about everything with a engine is not for sale in Ca. No tractors, mowers, chainsaws, generators, water pumps, etc. Do folks living in Ca. even get a Northern Tool catalog? What is this all about?

California has a ton of restrictions on emmisions and such and as a result a lot of places can't sell there as their engines don't meet the CA requirements.

I see lots of gas powered product with stickers on them "not legal for sale in California" - even wood stoves.

Yep, we have the strictest emissions regulations in the US. If it is Ca compliant, it will have a CARB sticker on it; California Air Resource Board.

Due to the volume of people, cars, and environtmental conditions(valleys, lack of air/wind circulation etc), some area's of Calif have the worst smog in the nation.

Funny, a lot of poeple in LA never consider themselves to be froma desert city; that's Palm Springs, Indio, 29 Palms. LA is a city on top of the desert...

A lot of folks have moved to the Sacramento area over the years. It is in a valley, and during the summer, the air does not have anywhere to go. Sac is bad for smog to a ppoint, but also a lot of allergies from the grass and stuff in the valley.

I do not know of area's like this elsewhere. Does Dallas and New York City get bad choking smog days?

And the bad part is the regulations are starting to affect people that do not live there. The wife and i drive for a small trucking company out of MS hauling furniture to the west coast and produce back to the south east. Starting in July only two out of 15 of our refer trailers will be legal to pull in CA.

Robert, from my short few years in the SF Bay area, I was of the opinion that the Sacramento Valley heats up during the day, and the air expands down the valley to the Bay area. At night as the valley cools, the air is drawn back up out of the Bay area. It cools the N. Bay cities, but also draws in all the pollution from SF and surrounding cities. Is this right or wrong?

In Dallas during the summer, the air becomes very still and stagnant. The hot air just hangs here wit h high humidity, absorbing everything that comes out of engine exhausts. The DFW metroplex and Houston area are two of the highest pollution areas in the state and have tougher emission controls that other areas of the state.
