That's a big pile of wood you got stacked up in Massey, Scottie.
Looks to be just shy of a half cord? Six buckets like that should be a good start for the Winter. I'll bet it gets cold up your way.

Scotty,

Put the first fire on tonight to dry the dampness out.
I have 8+ cords stacked and another 5+ to go. I usually burn around 4 cord a year.

I will start to clean up wood lot this fall as well.

This years almanac is calling for lots of snow starting mid November and note easing up till March. And we will have below average temps to boot.

Lots of small jobs to do to tighten the old house.

Good looking pile of wood there...

EVENING SCOTTY,
Been doing the same thing.Ive got twotrailers and two atvs .while im filling one at the splitter,my 13 year old hauls it down to the shed and stacks the other.works real good shes a good stacker.Shes earning money to go to the fair.Igive her 10 bucks per teir[about 7 ft high 7 feet wide]Shes been doing about a teir per hour.Im going broke:D:D
Ive got some year old poplar that im burning now when it is cool at night. Its a good wood to burn in the fall or spring ,burns hot,no coals to drive you out.does not run creasote.Itry to cut a couple poplars each year for this.
Town up where my camp is gave me about 4 cord of wood side the road if i cut it.NICE yellow birch ash and maple.cut it and hauled it home this spring, now im splitting it.Icut my wood a year in advance so this winters wood as put in last year.
Some people look at wood as a chore, but i love to work it up and burn it.
That wood doesnt have any cracks in it,is it a little green? You must have a heated basement to dry it in.wont be long and the fires will be burnin full time.

Used to follow behind loggers in the Pacific Northwest... Always had wood to cut and burn... I had connections with them... Now, it is cheaper to burn hard coal in my Harman coal stove then to cut wood... Will be a cold house this year... electric rates went up 19 plus... Quilts, electric blankets and "old" quilts will be on the beds this year. I am trying to cut back 20% on electric this year.

Hellooooo Scotty.
Where did the summer go...or did we have one.

Yep,it's that time of year to cut, whack, stack while mother nature starts painting the leaves...looking forward some of your pics high side of your back field looking down in the valley. :)

Been replenishing my pile at home also. As my pop always used to say to me (as he made me split and stack the family's wood supply for the winter)......."The nice thing about burning wood is it warms you twice!"

Good Mornin Guys,
Im glad Im not the only one doin this kind of work ! ;):)
Kind of glad we got it done yesterday, because today its raining cats and dogs, not so unusual for this neck of the woods this year !

Alan, in your question about the wood, it hasnt been in the wood shed that long but Uncle Dave has a heated basement with his woodstove. The problem with his woodshed is that all the real seasoned wood is in the back of the shed ! The next load that we bring in will be more seasoned and that will dry what we brought in allready ! The one thing about Uncle Dave burning his stove is that he burns it very hot so he doesnt get too much creosote buildup ! BTW keep paying your daughter, although you should have started at $5 :)

Keep cuttin and stackin boys ! ;)

Ductape nice lookin stack !

MORNIN SCOTTY,
Rain here too.remnents of that cane i guess.
Its nice to see the kids away from the tv,and video games, and workin.Thats my goal to teach them to be worth something and not lazy coach potatoes.[i say that as im in front of the compute:rolleyes::rolleyes:]When i do it myself i use the BOTA and round at up as much as possible like you did.Sometimes its a challengeto keep it level on the steep hills on my property:)
We ought to see if we can start a new event on woodsmans day at the fryberg fair....wood and bucket obsticle course racing .The rules will be you have to carry so much, bases on your tractor size] go through the course, hills and corners, and bumps, and the best time without spilling any wins:p:p
OK I ADMIT TOO MUCH COFFEE THIS MORNIN.:D

I load the bucket like that but not until we use it. I don't get snow like you folks do and I learned pretty early on that the less I have to move the firewood the better. So now I lay the logs in a row, cut the rounds in a row, splipt in a row, and stack in a row all requiring only the minimum amount of wood movage. Then that row dries all summer and gets covered on Labor day. That cover is slowly peeled back as I harvest dry firewood into the tractor bucket to be dropped near the house for burning.

We have been getting excellent harvest weather with nice warm afternoons and no rain at all for awhile now. The rain should start in about a week and continue until July. This time last year we were just about to begin 24/7 burning.

BTW maybe you should psot a pic of your stove for the guys !;)

Like the way you have that wood stacked on your FEL Scotty but our ground is so rough that after driving two feet it would be on the ground again.
I had 40 acres timbered last fall so have plenty of firewood but we use coal instead. As soon as the soybeans are harvested I will start cutting firewood with the hopes that I can sell some.
Do you have lots of oak or is mostly maple?

My stove picture is a little outdated with the orange carpet and all but here's my wood stacked, and the wood split. In a row as promised but is covered now with black poly hanging about a foot over each side.

The soapstone stoves from Hearthstone have really climbed in price. So much that I would now recommend the other Vermont Soapstone company which is Woodstock. We really love burning in soap.

Temps here in East Texas are peaking right around 80 degrees with the lowes around 60. I was wondering what happened to the humidity, now I know that it went to visit you guys up North!! :D

That sure looks like the hard way to get rid of your wood. Here, I just put the whole tree into the fire. Once I get a few dozen of them in there, they all burn up in just a day. It looks like the way you are doing it, you'll be burning that wood all winter long.

LOL Eddy!

Had a nice fire tonight, though I confess I had to open the windows to justify it.

How the heck do you not have that stack fall over Scott? I know for sure you have bumps up there in VT.

Nice stack Ductape - gave me some ideas for my new stack. Still a bit too warm here for splitting to my mind, we're still planting flowers, but splitting will be here in 2 weeks or so I'd guess.
