Subtle sarcasm noted. But i do agree that it doesn't hurt to question our assumptions not to mention that i've heard others say the same thing about my hobbies. :)

This can definately work. We have forklifts at work that use this electrics/hydraulics/batteries system. It will probably be a short range device, but how big is your horse barn? Probably not more than an acre.:D

Just plug this wire into the wall for a few hours and then go. :)

What if you want to go NOW??

But at what cost?? I've heard radio ads that proclaim that propane water heaters heat water for one third the cost of electric!! Gasoline contains more BTUs than propane!

I wasn't trying to inspire, I was trying to educate!! There are many more considerations than just: "Gee, I can just plug it in!"!!

all the fuel refining and transportation that you didn't mention. :)

Those costs are included in the less than $3 a gallon price!

And you didn't mention the 30 miles of extension cord!!

To go to the store, I could walk 3 miles down a gravel road backwards with no shoes on, but why bother, since I have shoes and it is so much easier walking forward, or maybe even spending the 60 cents to drive my car!!

The point is, Charlie wants one. That's usually a good enough reason for most of us to do stuff we don't need to do. :)

Not that I want one -- I want to see if I can make one work. Fourteen's right, a 180 with bucket & forks would be a better machine. The barns aren't so sealed that exhaust would really be a problem, and contrary to some opinions, horses are not bothered by machinery noise except at startup/startle. I don't much like noise, however, so the idea of a quiet manure and hay hauling machine appeals, and I might even get my sister and wife to try it, where I doubt they'd use a gasoline machine.
