John Deere X320
Model Year: 2011
Build Quality: Very thin paint on mowing deck around anti-scalp mounting brackets. Features: No fuel gauge, hard to see fuel level through translucent fuel tank. Performance: No issues so far, very quiet, no problems on grades, "feels" very strong, steers exceptionally easy, very tight turning radius, transmission very smooth. Value: Considering the pick up I have cost me 10x more than the one I bought 20 years ago, the X320 was only about 5x more than the tractor I bought 20 years ago. Reliability: Excellent so far Dealer experience: Probably being kind at 3 stars. Offered me a ridiculous trade value. I traded without deck and all other attachments. Sold the deck for more than he offered me in total. Told is was set up and ready to mow at delivery. Mowed or should I say scalped the heck out of my lawn before I realized it. Checked deck level, not even close. Couldn't find the "included" tool is adjust deck. Called the dealer to inquire about the tool and was told they don't include it anymore because it tears up the owners manual.....Huh? Had to drive to another dealer to get it. I'll add one more category: Engineering, and let you decide the importance: The location of the PTO, just below the ignition, is a problem. If you have anything on the key ring you have your key on, another key (to the barn in my case) or a key tag, it will find it's way into the space between the PTO switch and dash board. The slightest tap on the reverse peddle, disengages the mower deck, that's when I realized my barn key had wedged into space mentioned above. It's also a little annoying to have to remember to hold up on the PTO to prevent the disengagement. Oil filter removal is really tight. Hard to get oil filter wrench (I tried three types) in there to remove it. Overall, I really like this tractor. I hear people say "they don't make 'em like the used to". I agree, they make them much better! The comfort, style and so far performance, far exceeds the JD I purchases almost 20 years ago.
Pros: Sleek, stylish, powerful, comfortable, "good looking machine".
Cons: Dealer experience, minor engineering issues, but I'm certainly not an engineer, may well be reasons for the things that bother me.
