SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Electrical Problems
Model Year: 2012

Machine preforms very well. Had to have fuel gauge replaced and still having a problem with work lights. Over 200 hours on the machine cutting 2 acres of lawn does a good job. Diesel engine has more than enough power. Overall machine is as good or better than the Kubota's I have owned before and dealer would work with me on price Kubota dealer wouldn't budge on price.

Pros: Power---great.
Cons: Electrical.

Cub Cadet Yanmar SC2400
Model Year: 2005

I bought the tractor used out of the Detroit area and had it shipped to me in Western Washington. It had a hard life before me. I suspect that it lived outside or in an open sided shed. I ended up replacing some control linkages, the tail lights, and the fender assembly. The parts were surprisingly inexpensive. I've used it to build a narrow road/path around out very steep 2.5 acres using a 4' box blade and a 5' front blade. One has to be very careful when cutting the trail across a side hill, but it did the job very well. Probably my only complaint is that at times I wish the front hitch that is used both by the front blade and the snow thrower would lift a little higher, but the lift height is comparable to similar equipment on other tractors. I also have the usual draw bar for the 3-pt and a Rankin post hole digger with a 9" auger. It's great, but could use a down pressure kit. I will be getting the rear hydraulic setup from a 2500 so I can add that on. I'm not sure how I'll setup the control valve for that yet. Overall, I am very happy with this tractor. Probably the only thing I would have Yanmar change in the basic design is to make the fender metal instead of plastic, but the plastic one is pretty darned tough.

Pros: Reliable, very cost competitive, and as they say "it just works."
Cons: I wish the rear hydraulic setup came as a kit instead of having to figure out the individual parts list.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
New Owner
Model Year: 2008

I purchased this tractor, loader and mower used in December. I added a used 60" Blade to the mix as well. I have only used the tractor a couple times to move snow and so far so good. I do wish that I could find a used cab for it though to make snow removal a little warmer. I am in need of a couple small parts and it seems that since the Cub / Yanmar split dealers with parts availability have also split. The local Cub Cadet dealer in my area does not carry nor will they get parts for the tractor. They referred me to a Yanmar dealer which is fine, but they do not stock any parts and need to order everything. I wish I could find a good reliable online source for parts.

Pros: Easy on fuel. Tight turning radius.
Cons: Ease of parts ordering since the Cub / Yanmar split.

Yanmar EA2400/SC2400 = Same
Model Year: 2011

Great mower: - 60" MMM easy to remove and attach. Does not cut long grass cleanly though. My mowing time has been slashed. - Tight turning. - FEL with 4-in-1: glad I got it but slightly disappointed with power though anymore could be dangerous. Super easy to remove and attach. - PTO run mulcher, works like a legend. - Very comfortable and user friendly layout. - Hydro drive seems to take quite a bit of the power. When mowing uphill, need to slow considerably to keep revs up. Hydro drive very whiney in high range but I rarely use this. I live on slopes and am impressed with stability, turned tires out though. - Happy with turf tires. - Fuel consumption is minimal. No problems so far.

Pros: Easy to use. Stable. Economical. Mowing ability.
Cons: Hydro-static transmission is HP sapping. Cutting quality poor in long grass.

Nice Tractor for the Money
Model Year: 2009

Love everything but expected more power, hate the heel toe controls, and hate the bucket disconnect system, but beyond that its awesome. Note: I'm a picky person.

Pros: Layout shape and comfort.
Cons: Attachment ease sucks.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Dependable
Model Year: 2011

I use this tractor for mowing and tilling. It has the 60" mower deck. Even after a few dozen times removing it and putting it back on is a struggle. I haven't had any issues with it as of yet other than the seat dry rotting and cracking. Yanmar and the dealer were good about replacing it under warranty. 5gal of diesel mows close to 10 acres. I use a 60" tiller on an acre sized garden. Tills up un-plowed ground easy.

Pros: Well built, great on fuel and easy to operate.
Cons: Mower deck is hard to remove.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Amazing Little Tractor
Model Year: 2008

I have used this tractor for so much work it is incredible and possibly for things it should not be used for. My tractor has the 48"FEL, 60"MMM, 5' backblade, and a middlebuster subsoil plow. It mows 4 acres every week in the summer and plows all the snow in the winter. We put in a new home 3 years ago and have used this tractor non-stop since then. I boxed out and moved all topsoil to shape my driveway (approx 150'L x 16' W). Then placed and graded all stone from large sub base material to top stone. It did all the dirt grading around the home and then placed and graded all the topsoil. The list of what has been accomplished with this machine is too large to list here. Other than the oil seal going out of the gearbox on the mower deck, I have had no problems with this tractor at all. I priced a similar size Kubota and John Deere and the value of the Cub was so much better. After reading the specifications of all the competing machines, the choice was easy. The loader control is so erogonomic and user friendly compared to the other models. The John Deere actually had the exact same Yanmar engine in it so in other words you are paying a lot more for green paint and a name. It is a little disappointing that a few years after buying the tractor that Cub Cadet and Yanmar have parted. The new Yanmar tractors, however, are exactly like the original Cub Cadet Yanmar machines. I feel that 99% of my tractor is Yanmar anyhow and their partnership was just so Cub Cadet's well known name and history could help Yanmar launch their own subcompact tractor lines. So with all that being said I wouldn't hesitate to buy another "Yanmar" tractor in the future.

Pros: Very tough for its size and dependable, great value in comparison to other makes, very good fuel efficiency, and million + uses with imagination.
Cons: The lack of auxillary hydraulic hook-ups.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Good and Dependable
Model Year: 2011

I waited 'till the tractor had a few hours on it till I posted the review. After 175 hours and a couple of years I have to say its been very dependable. I mow 3 acres a week and till an acre of gardens. I'd say it would mow close to 10 acres on a tank of diesel fuel.(about 5 gals). If your buying a new one check the manufacture date, this one was made in 2008 almost 3 years old but sold as brand new. Seat routed and cracked but was replaced by Yanmar with no problem. Great customer service. If your looking to mow a lot of grass, it's a bumpy ass ride.

Pros: Dependable.
Cons: Ruff ride for mowing.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Subcompact CCY SC2400
Model Year: 2011

The tractor has adequately met my needs. I had 2.5 acres of grassed property and about 100 trees. I had a FEL and MMM. So far I've had one of my unlubed pulleys on my MMM go bad and several of my work headlights burn out. I suspect that they really don't like any water on the inside of the hood at all in cleaning. Lately I've been having issues starting so I've hooked up a trickle charger with pretty much no effect. I'll have to troubleshooting it. I maintain it diligently with fluid and filter changes and I must say that is fairly pricey. 320 for three oil air and transmission filters. All in all though it's been okay. Impressive power when it hooks up with traction!

Pros: Power, MMM cut quality and overall performance.
Cons: Cost and reliability.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
CC Yanmar SC2400 Review, Fluids and Filters
Model Year: 2011

Hi, I'm new to the TractorByNet forum but I wanted to add my tractor review for the benefit of others. I got my SC2400 in the summer of 2011. I didn't use it much until last year. I've got a front-end loader and a 4' box blade on the back and the 60" mid-mount mower. The FEL took some getting used to as far as attaching it and taking it off, etc. But, as with everything, it just takes a little practice. I had to pour a little concrete pad to set it on for storage and also to have a solid place for it to sit while I'm taking it on and off. I've spread about 40 yds. of dirt with it so far. Works great! The box blade is also very nice. At first I was having to muscle it on the 3-point hitch with a pry bar. That was not easy. Then, I wised up and got a quick hitch attachment. Now I just back up to it, snap it on and away I go---SO much better! I have 2 acres so the 60" mower makes pretty quick work of that. And, although it's pretty heavy, the deck is actually not too difficult to get on and off once you get the right sequence down. It's little hard reaching in the attach the PTO but everything else is not too bad. I am very pleased with the SC2400 and it performs very well for what I need. However, if I had known that CC and Yanmar were going to part ways and make getting parts difficult I might have gone with a JD or Kubota. The dealer said they are now an approved Yanmar dealership but parts always have to be special ordered. But, thanks to the TractorByNet forums and several posts from other SC2400 owners, I have found a lot of helpful information. As a gesture of appreciation I thought I would consolidate some of the information about fluids and filters for the SC2400 that will be helpful when doing regular maintenance. So, here it is: Coolant - Permanent type antifreeze, Ethylene Glycolin 50% water 50% antifreeze. Capacity - 3.4 qts Air Filter - Wix 46449 , NAPA 6449 , Fram CA9248 Crankcase Oil - SAE 10W-30 Oil Filter - Fram PH6017A , NAPA 1358 Capacity - 2.2 quarts Transmission Fluid - Hydraulic/Transmission Fluid Hydralic Filter - Wix 57103 , NAPA 7103 Capacity - 2.0 gals. Front Axle - SAE 80W-90 gear oil Capacity- 2.6 qts Belt - Part #954-3080 #91 MM60RSe

Pros: Great sub-compact tractor.
Cons: Difficult to get service and parts.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Some Design Flaws; Generally Solid
Model Year: 2008

Starting with the issues: - The steel bracket which the air cleaner mounts on is poorly designed and the engine vibration fatigued the steel within a year and broke it. - Both front tires wouldn't hold air. The dealer inserted tubes for free and remedied that. - The belly mount mower deck has had to have the drive gear replaced. This is an enclosed unit with no lube or maintenance required, but it came apart after 3 years. Also, the belly mower should have freely revolving rear wheels, similar to the front, but not having them make it difficult to move, and the shaft of the wheels is weakened by the large pin-hole drilled through it. Have had to replace these twice. - The hydraulic "quick-connect" is poorly located, and requires some gymnastics to reach. - The mid-PTO is not shrouded, so if you back up in high grass/weeds, be prepared for the grass to wind itself impossibly onto the shaft-spline. On the good side, the Yanmar engine has been reliable as expected; and the unit has nice features like good headlights/foglights and a really solid front end loader, which I have certainly worked hard. Priced to beat the competition is also a plus.

Pros: Engine quality; price; power to 3-point and to front end loader.
Cons: Design flaws have exposed multiple weak spots.

Happy with SC2400
Model Year: 2011

After researching, I limited my choices to 3 brands. Of them Cub Cadet/Yanmar was the best buy by far. Plus after checking out their build and operation, I was convinced the CCY was the one for me. The tractor has done very well thus far and the dealer has been great. I had one saftey switch fail and the dealer made a Sunday house call to get me going again. I had a JD 322 for 22 years that was powered by Yanmar and that fact played into my purchase as well.

Pros: Rock solid powertrain and chassis.
Cons: Could use tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

Cub Cadet/Yanmar Sc2400

The tractor is an excellent machine. My only issue has been with the sb45 snowblower attachment. It sucks. Finally after my dealer wrote a letter to CabCadet/Yanmar, it was replaced by the much better sb52.

Pros: Power, convenience, features.
Cons: Sub-standard snowblower attachment.

Happy with the SC2400
Model Year: 2011

After 22 years with a JD 322, I wanted to move up to diesel, 3pt. hitch and a loader. I shopped 3 brands with nearby dealers. Having had a Yanmar in the JD and getting a much better price made the decision easy. I have no regrets thus far. One bad safety switch is the only problem to date. My dealer took good care of me, even made a trip to my place on a Sunday to check it out.

Pros: Great Value. Built very strong.
Cons: Lacks a good frame mounted draw bar.

Snow Blower Head Updates
Model Year: 2009

I posted prior that the snow blower head was horrid, still is. In fact it is so bad Cub Cadet has sent out a commercial snow blower head as a replacement. It is at the dealer now, it is suppose to be stronger and more reliable than the one I had mentioned prior, we will see.

Pros: Good runner, great Kuhn tiller.
Cons: Still the implements made by MTD with a CC sticker on them.

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Beefy Lawnmower
Model Year: 2008

The SC2400 is a great machine if you are "Harry Homeowner" doing very small jobs. If you intend to move round bales of hay, this machine will not do the job. Loader simply has no guts. If you intend to use a post hole digger this machine will not do the job. The single hydraulic that lifts the 3pt doesn't have the strength to pull the auger out of the ground after you've dug the hole. I hand dug my auger out 10 times minimum. The hydrostatic tranny is a waste of engine power. The engine isn't strong enough to push the tractor and use other components simultaneously. Admittedly, I used my SC2400. I asked it to do tractor work and it simply couldn't do the job. If you want a lawnmower that has a loader for moving a few rocks or light dirt, this is a great machine. The 60" mower deck cuts grass wonderfully. I am not impressed by the plastic fenders, hood etc... Lots of money for a "sexy" cool looking little machine. Overall, know what you want to do. This is not a tractor! This is a lawn mower with umph... My dealer is/was great. No complaints. Engine vibration rattled and broke the air filter bracket three times. The dealer handled it under warranty with perfection, but the point is that it should never have broken.

Pros: Cuts grass wonderfully.
Cons: Cheap plastic, undersized engine, poor hydraulics, & hydrostatic trans is weak.

Great little tractor - works hard and is durable. My very first tractor of any size, so I don't have much to compare with, but I can't imagine it getting much better.

Pros: FEL and 3pt.
Cons: Feels a little top heavy.

Do not buy a bagger or snow blower from Cub
Model Year: 2009

I have the SC2400, the bagger had only 1 mount bracket, after much frustration the dealer (who is awesome) made a second bracket for the 3pt hitch. Then the belts burned out, the replacements are $45/piece, and still won't work. I replaced the 1/2 inch belts with 5/8, now it works fine. The snow blower is not designed at all for this machine. it blew a bearing, locked the head up and stopped my tractor dead. Where is the shear pin on the PTO!? Instead of a 1" shaft on the blower, they used a 7/8. This is an MTD blower made for a smaller machine, do yourself a favor and get the after market one. Also I have an after market tiller by Kuhn, I love this tiller, it pounds the ground and has no problem tilling anything I put in front of it.

Pros: Love the tractor, great power.
Cons: Hate the MTD "el cheepo" implements. I did not spend 17K for junk - apperantly I did

SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar
Perfect size for me
Model Year: 2009

I needed a new mower and also wanted a tractor for all my projects around my property. The Sc2400 seemed to be big enough to really make a difference without being so big that maneuverability suffered. With the 60" MMM, it turns shorter than my previous CC 2165 and the FEL makes life so much easier for a number of jobs. I've pulled a few stumps (small, around 3" or so) with this tractor and it worked really well. I didn't think it would work at all due to the size, but it didn't even strain. I was impressed. The mower is perfect and the precise 3ph control means I can set the height of my yard and forget about it. I've used this tractor for anything and everything around my property and it's worked well in all instances. I use the tractor to clear our 300' driveway in the winter as well as clearing brush, hauling wood, grading dirt/gravel, and, of course, mowing my yard. My wife's uncle has a JD 2305 and, while similar, I prefer my Sc2400 over the JD 2305 if for no other reason that the operator station and controls layout. I seriously considered the Kubota BX2360 because the specs are so close to the Sc2400, but the price was the deciding factor.

Pros: A ton of power. Lower cost than orange or green. Loader has good capacity. Shift on the fly is hanider than I orginally thought.
Cons: Mower isn't the drive over type so it kind of sucks to put on and take off. My dealer doesn't carry basic maintenance parts for it.
