M5140 Kubota
Beast
Model Year: 2013

I bought this tractor used and I use it for hauling and moving around bales to feed my cattle and to clear brush, Mine is an enclosed cab. This tractor is a beast. It does everything I need and more. It is very reliable and easy to operate. I traded a John Deere 3203 to step up to this tractor, which is head and shoulders better for this size property. I would highly recommend this tractor and this year make and model if you can find one.

Pros: Great power, performance, ease of operation
Cons: Tough to work in the forest due to the cab limitations

Weak Hydraulics Only Fault
Model Year: 0

Overall a great tractor. The hydraulics are weak and you need high engine RPM to get them working. That is my opinion and that of an experienced operator neighbor who has helped me out.

Pros: Great tractor.
Cons: Weak hydraulics.

My Kubota
Model Year: 2011

I've used my Kubota to bush hog my two large fields that had become overgrown. I've also used it to improve my road down to the lower meadow and drag fallen trees out of the wooded areas for fire wood.

Pros: Plenty of power to the PTO for the 72" Land Pride rotary mower.
Cons: Almost too tall to fit into the barn door, very slow entry with only one inch to spare because of the enclosed cab.

Workhorse
Model Year: 2012

We had originally planned on buying the M5100. I asked our dealer the difference between the M5100 and the M5140. He walked me out to the two tractors, which were sitting side-by-side, and had me stand behind the M5100 and check it out. Then we moved to the M5140. He pointed out that the M5140 was larger, heavier, beefier, better in practically every way, especially in creature comforts. The M5140 was larger than I thought we needed, but there was no going back. We work our stuff hard, and I like the additional beef. We chose Synchroshift (stick) transmission, LA1153 loader, industrial tires (still great traction, b ut easier on the lawn), canopy, 72" LandPride bush hog and 48" CA forks. The dealer put water and antifreeze in the rear tires. The 5140 got an easy start as we got to know her, but she's worked hard since, clearing land. We've dug at tree roots and pushed down huge hardwoods. We've used a 72" root grapple and a 72" rollover box blade to dig into rooty Georgia clay and moved plenty of soil with the bucket. We've hauled everything the grapple could clamp down on---so much that back end felt light, even with the box blade hanging out there. The 5140 hasn't hiccuped. It's comfortable, and does everything we ask. We plan to beef up the grill guard with a plate steel face; the grapple has no back, and we're concerned we might jam a branch right through grapple and grill into the battery and radiator.

Pros: Rock solid. Dealer (Bearden Tractor, Carrollton, GA) has been excellent.
Cons: No real complaints. Shifters could be a little smoother; we'll try adjusting them. We wish there was more space for a toolbox.

This has been a superb tractor, doing everything I've asked of it. It has held up to abuse and hard use with no complaints. I'm very glad I got this tractor.
