L285 Kubota
L285 Kubota
Model Year: 0

I bought this tractor used almost 30 yrs. ago. I couldn't afford a new tractor. I couldn't afford a used Ford or Massey or Deer. I had to have something. These were considered cheaply made Japanese inferior to American made tractors. I believed this BS. I bought this one and was ashamed to park it where it could be seen from the road. My dad always had Fords, 8n, 600, 601 diesel, 2000, 4000, 10,000,. The L285 comparable to 8n, 600, 601, It has as much power but is easier to handle. The short wheel base allowes it to turn sharper. My dad liked it because he could cultivate all the way to the ends of the rows. Its easy to maintain. The only problems I've had was my fault, poor maintenance. In cold weather it will crank when nothing else will. One thing that stands out over the years is when I do work on it the bolts don't break, are very hard, and are coated and are reusable. On the old Fords half are going to break.

Pros: Quality built, easy to operate, low fuel consumption
Cons: Seat hard, uncomfortable, but can be replaced

This is my 3rd Kubota I've owned. All have been the older type and I have been very please with them all. They are excellent value.

Pros: Built to work and last.
Cons: Hard to find parts (when needed) for a tractor that hardly needs any.

L285 Kubota
L285 a.k.a. L2600
Model Year: 1991

Grey market L2600 same as L285. Forget going to the Kubota dealer but plenty of grey dealers willing to provide service and parts. Strong basic no-frills tractor that sips fuel.Great gear train and engine.

Pros: Economy-power-gears-price.
Cons: No Kubota dealers will talk to you.
