JDZZ225 John Deere
Piece Of Junk
Model Year: 2009

With less than 80 hours, there was a crack in the block. The John Deere dealer could not find any reason for the crack and estimated it would need $1000 for the repairs.

Pros: None
Cons: Expensive mower that didn't last 80 hours

JDZZ225 John Deere
Electrical Problem
Model Year: 2011

Started season with dead battery. Replaced but no power to carb solenoid, clutch, or hour meter. Replaced carb solenoid and relay in vain. Traced every wire and tested switches and fuses. There is no help for a mechanically inclined do-it-yourselfer living over an hour from any John Deere repair shop and no way to transport it. Not happy with JD service resources. A complete wiring diagram would solve my problem. I like the way it cuts when it is working. I don't like dealing with JD support. Their parts website is useless.

Pros: Cuts good and fast.
Cons: No help with repairs beyond normal maintenance. Not good with trailer or grass catcher.

JDZZ225 John Deere
Great Mower
Model Year: 2011

I love this machine. The only issue I have had is the battery is starting to get weak. Other than that the Z225 is one strong and versatile mower.

Pros: Quick and powerful.
Cons: Battery is not the best.

JDZZ225 John Deere
John Deere Z225 is a Bust
Model Year: 2010

I'm actually reviewing my parent's mower. Residential 1.5 acre lawn. Over 9 months of use, this mower has been only gone a maximum of 6 straight weeks without having some sort of problem. From dead batteries to leaking hydraulics, this mower has seen it all. Worst of all, the mower overheats frequently, creating a lot of frustration when you don't have time to wait for it to cool down. The dealer, thus far does not back the product, even though it is under warranty. I have been using cheap riding mowers for 26 years and never had one overheat. This is an inexcusable design flaw in this model. John Deere is known for quality, but they have really dropped the ball with this one. It's features are great - when the mower is running. The problem is with keeping it running. I will be sticking with my cheap, low maintenance mowers.

Pros: Zero turn, speed.
Cons: Overheats in Michigan easily, uneven mowing, frequent repairs needed.
