JD 2040
Model Year: 1970
This is a really nice tractor. Power steering and brakes, 3 cylinder diesel, 40hp at PTO. I use this tractor for lots of different things: - post hole digger - moving gravel, manure, etc with bucket - brushogging - fertilizing - baler, rake, sickle bar - box blade, non-box blade - tiller Only three complaints for my use: 1) Wish it were 4WD. I think they may have made some of these with 4WD. 2) The bucket is not easy to remove like the newer tractors. It would be super-nice to be able to remove the bucket for mowing and such... the extra weight of the bucket together with the fact that it's 2WD can make it harder to get around / more likely you'll make ruts with the front wheels 3) Wish I had more hydraulics. I just have one pair, which go to the front loader. I've got equipment that needs one pair, and I'd love to borrow my neighbor's "real" farm equipment but much of it needs two pairs of hydraulics. Overall it's a really great tractor, really tough and I'm pleased with it.
Pros: It's green.
Cons: Wish my specific version had 4WD, more hydraulics, removable loader.
