IH444 International Harvester
Has Been A Good Old Tractor.
Model Year: 1967

We use it to bushhog about 25 acres of horse pasture, and don't know much about tractors except basic maintenance. it has been a tough, useful tractor but it is getting hard to maintain. It had a hard life before we got it, and it's expensive to get anyone to work on it for us. The best thing about it, as far as I'm concerned, is the steering! It has a lot of power for a tractor this size.

Pros: Steering, power
Cons: Cost of maintenance

1970 IH 444
Model Year: 1970

My grandfather bought this new and I was the first to run it at age 13. Obviously with the very low hours you can see it is still in great condition. Always garaged. Always runs. Had a transmission lock-up issue that I fixed fairly easily. I run a Mott Flail mower on it along with a cultivator. I've also had a 7' snowblower on it and recently found a IH 2000 loader that I restored and attached.

Pros: Very reliable.
Cons: No aux hydraulic connection.

Canadian IH 444
Model Year: 1970

Purchased IH 444 Canadian version diesel, built some time in the late 1960s or early 1970s. Good condition. Purchased to do some work on a new property I purchased. This slowly purchasing items for the 3 pt hitch. Also working on a few minor issues. Brakes, hydraulic leak. One issue with this tractor is conflicting information regarding weather the tractor is same as us version of the IH 364 or the IH 384. Regardless nice tractor with great sounding engine. Hope to have it ready to work next summer.

Pros: Part available
Cons: Parts can be expensive.

She Just Keeps Going
Model Year: 1970

Great heavy tractor for it's size. It's never not started. It has its quirks but over all performs well. It's about to get an in the frame overhaul. One or more of the sleeve o-rings are leaking by badly. I've added power steering which really made it nice to operate with a loader. Overall a great little tractor for mowing, moving snow, and whatever else I can think to do with it.

Pros: Overall reliable tractor and solid tractor.
Cons: Parts are hard to find.

My 444
Model Year: 1970

My phone has been a good tractor. It does not have a loader and I have been advised not to put one due to the front axle design. Parts are becoming an issue.

Pros: Reliable and strong.
Cons: Weak front axle design.

Buying Used
Model Year: 1974

Got the tractor driven home. It was overheating. Saw the hoses were rotten, and replaced all the rubber. Intermittent stoppages led to a fuel line plug, just above the manual lift-pump, that was removed and fixed the problem. Changed the two in-line fuel filters (just to be safe..) and had a glow-plug blow out.. The new plugs were supplied with a 'plastic' grommet insulator that melted on running the engine because of lost electrical contact. Sliced up an old ceramic "tube" insulator from an old demolished house (knew they'd come in handy some day..) and used the ceramic grommet to replace the melted plastic one that came with the new glow plug. Tractor has been amazingly reliable ever since.

Pros: All.
Cons: New glow plugs come with a stupid plastic insulator instead of the older ceramic ones.

Big Dog
Model Year: 1956

This IH 444 when it arrived was the largest piece of farm machinery I ever owned. On our property my grandpa had a jublie 600 ford, and for years it was the only thing we had to work with. When the 444 arrived deisel power bushhog ing plowing, road scraping ect... it just showed us a thing or two about what was possible. In the years that have past, I've pulled the head, jerked out the sleeves dropped in new pistons ring, and bearings, once I let the water freeze in the block and had to work, to find a new used bd154 block but that was my own dumb fault. Still after a lot of years service she still runs fine and dose all I could ask for.

Pros: Power streering.
Cons: Electrical system.
