5400 John Deere
Does It All
Model Year: 1996

Mine is a open station 4-wheel drive with front-end loader and power sync 12-speed. I use it regularly and it does all that I ask, including bush hogging, tearing down a building, moving debris, brush pile and log removal, etc. I highly recommend the Titan clamp on 6,000 pound forks, but use both the stabilizer bar and chains/ratchet binder. With this setup, you can do anything! In the woods, wear a hardhat because of falling dead stuff.

Pros: Strength and traction
Cons: Seat does not go back far enough for long legs

This tractor has never let me down. It has been dependable, overly capable for my applications and very cost effective over the years

Pros: Dependable, cost effective
Cons: Doesn't have the computer technology of the new machines

Very versatile tractor has done everything I have asked. Just normal preventive maintenance and no trouble. For the money wouldn't change.

Pros: Versatile tractor.
Cons: None.

Excellent size for a small farm utility tractor. With optional forks get everything done around here. Well balanced machine which is great on our hilly ground. Super snow plowing up hill or down without chains. The power to handle a 7' tiller on hilly ground. Although I would always like more power and cab like a 6400 series tractor, I love the fuel economy and easy on/off of this open station tractor and plan on keeping it.

Pros: Fuel economy, traction, easy on/off.
Cons: A pin shears every couple hundred hours in the shifting arm with the 3X3 transmission requiring a 2 hour down time for a 50 cent part.
