5065E John Deere
Can't Get Rid Of It Fast Enough
Model Year: 2017

It's been a pain since I got it. It's a lease (second mistake). It has been to the John Deere place like 6 times. The loader was wrong the first time. It won't regen. It spent 6 weeks at shop one time. I just got it back from shop, I spent $550 for switches and electrical parts that would have fit in my front pocket. Now it won't crank. I got it charging now and it is still dragging. The first mistake was getting a John Deere. Dealing with John Deere and the dealer, I feel like a tennis ball back and forth between them and I haven't gotten anywhere.

Pros: None
Cons: Where do I start?

5065E John Deere
Deliberately Waited To Review
Model Year: 2013

I bought a new 5065E with a 553 loader 5 years ago. I didn't see much use in reviewing a new tractor then, so here you go 5 years and 500 hours later. I've had no significant issues with the tractor. The bolts holding the seat down vibrated loose and knocked the threads out. I had to fix it with a helicoil. I managed to mash the hydraulic tube that runs from the front of the tractor to the rear and had to replace that so a skid plate would help. The little "bat wing" that adjusts the lift arm up and down to level an implement vibrated loose and was lost so I had to replace that. I also had the ground cable vibrate loose. The dash panel does fog up but hasn't caused any issues. I have the standard 12/3 transmission and any range but "A" is entirely too fast in reverse. It's also hard to start in cold weather but the dealer installed a block heater that works well and is worth the money. Overall I recommend the tractor and would buy again. I'm currently considering another 5065E or a 5075E.

Pros: Overall simple utility tractor
Cons: Minor bolts loosening and could benefit from a skid plate

Runs Like A Champ
Model Year: 2017

I have been tilling a 10-acre lot and it has never bogged down like the tractor before it. The only problem is that the fuel gauge drops to empty when it gets to 3/4 of a tank.

Pros: Stout
Cons: Fuel gauge

5065E A Time Bomb!
Model Year: 2012

Beware, 5065E owners. My neighbor and I bought this tractor and it is nothing but trouble. The fuel tank sits on top of the hydraulic reservoir which gets so hot it melts the tank. My neighbor's melted completely through and mine has started melting in three places. This tractor needed a cooling unit for the hydraulic and transmission fluid. Fluid gets so hot it is destroying seals. The flash point of diesel fuel due to heat is like sitting on a bomb. John Deere did not recall this problem, but instead now puts a heat shield in between the tank and reservoir. This only pushes heat back into an already-hot hydraulic system, further destroying seals. The neighbor and I have filed a lawsuit against John Deere due to their level of disregard for customers. A class action suit is in the works. It is our opinion that this is a very dangerous tractor due to the positioning of the fuel tank.

Pros: No pros
Cons: Only "cons" on this tracto

Farmers
Model Year: 2015

This tractor is unreliable. The system runs hot and now it will not run. The tractor will not go into forward or reverse. I changed the fuel filter and drained the fuel tank to keep the tractor running It is now in the shop to correct wiring.

Pros: When running no problem
Cons: Tractor down for one month to get problem resolved, tractor still in shop

5065E John Deere
Good Tractor For The Money
Model Year: 2012

I had a 5045E, but that was a cheap and very sorry made tractor. I traded it in and got the 5065E and I am very satisfied.

Pros: Great power and torque
Cons: Very hard to crank when cold

Tractor is a Piece of Junk No Brakes and Has Delay in the Gears
Model Year: 2013

Tractor is a piece of junk, no brakes and has delay in the gears. I have a cab model with loader and 4x4, power reverser and it has a delay that comes and goes when ever it decide to John Deere cannot figure it out it has brakes that go to the floor and barley stop the tractor. They have told me just deal with it. I don't think after spending $44,500 I should have to deal with it---it should be right. They have put 17 hrs. on it I put 8, they don't see anything wrong with that they offered to buy it back if I take a $5,265 loss 'cause it has so many hours on it that they put on it. Bottom line I never buy a John Deere again I stay completely with Massey Ferguson 100%.

Pros: Nice color.
Cons: Brakes delay in trans.

5065E John Deere
Serious Hydraulic Faillures & JD Not Admitting to Problems
Model Year: 2012

There are serious problems with the hydraulic systems on all "E" models below 80 HP. Problems cause serious overheating of hydraulic, transmission, and brake components. John Deere has not sufficiently advised dealers as to how to prevent unsold models from experiencing the problems, and how to correctly fix units experiencing problems the first time they are returned to a dealer for repair. One day, someone will lose their life when the fuel tank catches fire and burns the tractor and the operator due to the problems with these models, and John Deere will still deny there is a design problem in the "E" Series.

Pros: Unit appears to be well designed.
Cons: Poor hydraulic system overheats hydraulic and transmission components.

5065E John Deere
Powerful, Reliable, Easy to Operate
Model Year: 2013

This is the most comfortable, powerful tractor I have owned. It is easy to operate and does what I ask it to do. It is excellent on fuel as well. From plowing to hay baling it does well.

Pros: Priced fairly.
Cons: None.

5065E John Deere
Very Satisfied So Far
Model Year: 2013

We never owned a tractor before our purchase (though we have many farmer relatives who do or did) and were unsure whether to buy new or used and if new, from which manufacturer. Naturally, we'd love to save on a used tractor but the used ones we saw were rarely in very good condition and the ones that were were snapped up quickly by experienced people who could evaluate their condition much more expertly than we could (most of the good used tractors were gone by the beginning of June). Since we had to attack 90 acres of 8-foot-tall densely growing thistle immediately, we decided we needed something reliable and with some power. We're also going to use it soon to disk the fields to prepare them for planting and roll them once we plant, as well as to spread fertilizer with a broadcast spreader. We'll probably also use it to harvest hay in the future. I was told by a couple of acquaintances John Deere tractors were much too expensive for what they offered but when I visited the Kioti and Kubota dealerships in town, I discovered the John Deere salesman was much more attentive and less prone to trying to sell me something I didn't need than the other dealers. Furthermore, the price wasn't bad at all and the tractor really has needed no servicing over the 65 hours we used it. In fact, I discovered they very thoroughly prepared the tractor before delivering it. Everything was very tight and well-oiled. It does the job very well. We don't regret our choice.

Pros: Reliable.
Cons: None that we can tell.

5065E John Deere
5065E
Model Year: 2010

Good simple, strong tractor, kind of like they all used to be. Mine is a 2WD without loader. It has plenty of power, and in fact is a little light for its power. I have water in the tires and have found that even with differential lock, when pulling up a small tree, I can not pull a larger tree with it than I can with my 1952 John Deere Model A, which sometimes will wrinkle the tires a bit before spinning. You only pull till you spin. Reverse and 2nd have synchro in all ranges, but shifting to other gears often requires slowing to idle from bush hogging rpm, and having a little patience to avoid grinding. It's really too new to make any reliability statement. The Model A, now THAT is reliable!

Pros: It is a John Deere.
Cons: No major.

5065E John Deere
JD 5065E So Far, So Good...
Model Year: 0

Still early in the break in period, but the tractor and 553 loader are really making me happy. I have 400+ acres that this tractor needs to be the general purpose utility tractor over. The crop farming is leased, but I've already been doing a lot around-the-fields clean up, old fence tear down and firewood hauling. The weather has been cold and the first couple of starts where tough, but with a little break in time they're easier. Also, there's no preheat light so it's hard to tell when you're really getting preheat (just push the key in at the run position). Once it's running roughly, just keep preheating and it smooths out. The MFWD works great in the winter mud. I only wish it had an indicator light. I often forget it. The seating position, entry, exit and operation are the best of any tractor I've been on. Fine for my 6'2", 175 lbs with long legs.

Pros: No problems at all, great ergonomics, smooth running, awesome balance, stability and traction.
Cons: 2 indicators are needed: when in 4wd, when preheat is active.

Tractor city is great. I think they did all they could. I don't like the way the loader dumps. They say it's a safety issue (maybe). I have to pump the brakes two times to get a full peddle. I think that's more of a safety issue than the loader. What do I know? I would like to have a hat. I bought a riding mower and a 5065E, that should qualified for a hat.

Pros: Motor, shifter.
Cons: Brakes, loader dump time.

Great tractor, good hydraulics, controls very easy and comfortable. Has a John Deere 553 quick disconnect loader (very nice) and four wheel drive. Starts hard when cold, had to install oem block heater, which is very quick only 1 hour and it will start right up.

Pros: Great Tractor
Cons: Starts hard when cold.
