Review On 5045D tractor
Model Year: 2012

When I first purchased this tractor, the gauge panel would fog up and the tractor would not start. The gauge panel was replaced twice and is still fogging up. The paint job on tractor is poor, as it is peeling. The power lift is hard to use. It is a diesel guzzler. I am disappointed in the performance.

Pros: Has power once it starts and easy to handle
Cons: All of the above

John Deere 5045D/563 Front-End Loader
Model Year: 2014

I am absolutely disappointed with this utility tractor. It has 220 hours and the tractor is in the shop for the third time. So far I have had a short under the dash, a neutral safety switch malfunction, it ran hot, the brakes dragging, a fuel line burst, and a hydraulic line split. Do not buy a 5045. You will regret it!

Pros: Power when working
Cons: Build quality, features, performance, value, reliability, customer service

I am very satisfied with this tractor. This is my first diesel. I previously had an IH 240 that I should have restored as it was old enough to consider an antique so that may be why I consider this an excellent utility tractor. I use it to move round hay bales, brush hog, & pull a cart. I have needed to use the block heater only once - all other times it starts in the cold Pennsylvania winters.

Pros: Diesel engine, Adjustable width of wheels, price, power
Cons: 2 wheel drive

Very horrible experience with it
Model Year: 2014

John Deere made very bad machines. I had ford 3600 before this and she was amazingly reliable and durable than this.

Pros: Its features only
Cons: Major leak in main seal and piston broke at only 90 hours also diesel consumption is very high

Great basic machine!
Model Year: 2014

After putting about 30 hours on the tractor I couldn't be happier with it! The build quality is up to par with what you would expect with a green tractor. I got the machine with the 512 John Deere loader and have yet to regret not getting a 4 wheel drive. Looking forward to years of service!

Pros: Basic, simple, powerful, and well built.
Cons: None Yet!

Well built
Model Year: 2014

Just got my tractor a few days ago, but so far I love it. I was torn between this and the 4wd model, but do not regret my decision. Pulls a 6' bush hog through thick brush without a problem. Plenty of traction for loader work around the farm. I look forward to years of service out of it!

Pros: Well built, plenty of power.
Cons: None yet

Used for operating rotary cutter in pastures and fence lines, front end loader, box blade for road maintenance.

Pros: Starts quickly and reliably; runs well. Operator's controls well laid out.
Cons: Hydraulics on 3-pt. hitch quirky; still haven't got the draft adjustment figured out. Must come to complete stop before shifting gears.

Excellent basic machine, 45 HP but conservatively rated. Pulls a 16" x 14" Hesston baler easily, which is supposed to take a 50HP machine minimum. Lower HP machine built on a larger frame, not a compact which I think is important for hay work. I'm 6' 7" and have plenty of room. I would never buy any tractor without a canopy and this one works great. Very reliable and a pleasure to drive. I also have a 75HP Mahindra (7520) also in 4 wheel drive and the Deere does all as well except it is too small to run the 1033 hay stacker. I recommend always buying a little more tractor than you need because too small is not much cheaper. The 5045 can be turned into a 5065 65 HP just by turning up the pump. We compared all of the specs and looked at the machines, there are absolutely no other differences...except price. This machine is used mostly to mow large grass areas in my mobile home park, and is a second tractor for haying on my farm.

Pros: Resale on any John Deere far out shines every one. Not a lot of bells and whistles to break I got 5 years no interest.
Cons: Have not found any yet.

Great, Basic Tractor
Model Year: 2012

A very good utility tractor. No bells or frills, but perfect if you just need a basic 2wd workhorse. Solid and well built. Heavy for its size and hp. Handles 512 loader, 80" Bush hog very comfortably. Haven't used my disc yet. Overall, a very good value.

Pros: Basic, well built, heavy for hp.
Cons: No bells and whistles.

This is a great medium sized tractor. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is easy to operate and very comfortable. It is great for planting food plots, keeping my roads cleared and bush hogging. I plan to install a 512 bucket loader on it soon.

Pros: Grear tractor.
Cons: None.

A Well Built Machine!

I love my tractor. When they say nothing runs like a Deere, they are right.

Pros: Well built and built to last.
Cons: Needs a rear switch for lift arm adjustment.

Haying with Smaller Tractor
Model Year: 0

I bought my John Deere after owning an old ford 4000 for several years. Not to mention raising cattle, feeding hay with no loader. Bought the John Deere and purchased an Hesston 530 4x4 baler. My Deere bailed 60 bales this weekend with no problem and plenty of power.very pleased.

Pros: Sstrong tractor.
Cons: None so far.

John Deere 5045D - More Tractor Than I Thought
Model Year: 2011

Was comparing with the Kubota MX5100. Decided to go with the utility style in the 5045D. Tractor has surprising power when bush hogging. The only time it needed attention was the gauges would fog after running awhile but the dealer came right out and changed the whole gauge package and corrected the problem. I find the engine a little louder than the Kubota, but not excessive. Only wish the tractor came with a tilt steering. Occasionally would like a little more room when turning to work a rear implement. Overall very well pleased with the Tractor and would recommend it. Good value for the price.

Pros: More torque than I thought for a 45 HP.
Cons: No tilt steering.

5045D with 512 Loader
Model Year: 2009

A great tractor! I'm very happy so far. It's powerful, smooth and works great with the 512 Loader. Don't let anyone tell you that 4wd is a necessity with a loader. This 2WD tractor works like a champ!

Pros: Powerful, reliable, and a good dealer network.
Cons: Needs an indicator light for the parking brake.
